The Importance of Reflection
Thanksgiving is the time of year when I slow down and think about life’s many blessings and try in some small way to show my gratitude for them. Among my greatest blessings are the faculty and staff at Rawlinson Middle School. You are an amazing bunch of people and I am privileged to work with you! Walking down the hallways, visiting classrooms, and even working lunch duty remind me of the important work we do at RMS. It warms my heart to see kids excited about school. Thank you for all you do to make this happen!
Thanksgiving is also a time to reflect on how I’m doing in terms of the professional goals I’ve set this year. What have I accomplished so far? What should I tweak? Where do I need to concentrate my efforts going forward? What are my next steps?
John Dewey, a great American philosopher and educational reformer, said, “We don’t learn from experience. We learn from reflecting on experience.” This week, you will be reflecting on your SLO goal. Please take some time and think about your next steps. What steps will move your students forward? What steps will ensure that you are reaching all kids? What steps will lead you to greater growth as a professional? Our work isn’t easy, but it is vital to our students’ lives.
REMINDER: SLO Goal Reflection is due Thursday November 21st.
Congratulations Abigail Jones!
At the beginning of the year, this week's Superhero took time to teach not only her students but teachers as well, the "Get Up" dance for our first pep rally. She and her partner are rocking at starting the dance program on campus, as well as a dance club. Students talk nonstop about how much fun they are having in her class using their creativity to come up with their own dances.
Congratulations, Mrs. Jones for being Rawlinson's Superhero of the Week!
