Monday: Can You Move with Me?

Children stay seated and demonstrate ways to move in a stationary position. Then they will stand and pretend they are stuck in the mud. They'll move without moving their feet. Explain that the animals in the book will move from one place to another. Their feet and legs move. Ask them to name different ways to move. (walk, skip, hop etc.)


Read the story and have the children name ways the animals move from here to there.

Can you squirm without moving from here to there? Which animal doesn't use legs or feet to move from one place to another? Which other animals move but don't use legs or feet?


Tuesday: Gram Is Coming to My House

How does your grandparents come to visit you? In the story, grandmother visits several places on her way to her grandson. Listen carefully for the places Gram stops along the way.

Read the story.

How many types of transportation did Gram use to get to her grandson?

Which vehicle is the last one that Gram used?

Was Gram's travel an adventure? Why?

Name the places Gram stopped at on her journey or adventure.

Discuss self-reliance and how Gram used it to get to her grandson's house.

Vocabulary: airport, train station, subway station, runway, airplane, adventure, self-reliance


Wednesday: Gram Is Coming to my House

Compare and contrast Gram's automobile and the shuttle bus. Name places for storing suitcases in these vehicles.

Name the beginning letter/sound of each type of vehicle

Read the story. Return to pages 6 and 7 and have someone point to Gram's luggage.

Discuss what Gram might have packed in her suitcases and why.
