2017-2018 ANNUAL MANDATORY EMPLOYEE TRAINING (AMET)
The Annual Mandatory Employee Training for all Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) employees will continue during the 2017-2018 school year. This type of training eliminates travel, provides employee input, ensures compliance, reduces liability and allows course content to be updated almost immediately. Employees can complete the training at a convenient time while working at their own pace. Some of the training courses have changed again this year and have been customized to meet the needs of particular departments and schools.
The startup date for the training is Aug. 17, 2017. Failure to comply fully with this training requirement may result in disciplinary action. All employees will be required to view each entire training module assigned to their job title. New employees will also be required to view the training modules from the previous year.
The Department of Planning, Innovation and Accountability will issue five re-certification points to all eligible employees upon completion of the training before the deadline. A target completion date of Feb. 16, 2018, has been established.
Employee training modules required for ALL employees: 1. Bullying: Recognition & Response (Refresher) 2. Cybersecurity Overview 3. Diversity Awareness: Staff to Staff (Refresher) 4. Fire Extinguisher Safety (Refresher) 5. Health Emergencies: Life Threatening Allergies 6. Password Security Basics 7. Sexual Harassment (Staff to Staff - Refresher)
New Teacher Literacy Academy Sessions
The first session will be held on Oct. 10, from 3:45-5:45 p.m., and will focus on whole group and small group instruction. The second session will be held on Dec. 6, from 3:45-5:45 p.m., and will focus on small group instruction aligned to independent practice. Both sessions will take place at the Plaza Annex PDC.
Enhanced Science Curriculum
Enhancements to the science curriculum include multiple performance tasks which allow students to make interest-based selections on how they will demonstrate their learning. The enhanced science curriculum also includes personalized portfolios and differentiated hyperdocs in the areas of Not Quite Ready, Just Ready and Ready to Go for unit VBOs.
Mandatory Curriculum Update Webinar
The Mandatory Curriculum Update Webinar was created to ensure all teachers are aware of the curriculum updates and receive the same curricular update message. The webinar is available on SharePoint and is grade level specific. Teachers may refer back to the webinar throughout the school year.
