Wood Library Buzz

November 2020

Library Updates!

The library is starting to buzz! Students will be able to start checking out print books and playaways this week. Details on how students can do this are listed below.

The library ordered new books for Sora, our digital library. These books will only be available to Wood students. Some are already in the collection with more to come this month.

Students participated in the Literary Pumpkin Patch with a Twist. Students did a great job transforming their paper pumpkins into book characters like Harry Potter. Pumpkins are being displayed in the library windows throughout the month of November.

MakerSpace activities will be coming soon to students as TakerSpace activities. Students can start looking for Ms. Jennings during lunches with fun MakerSpace activities to take with them and do in their spare time.

Finally, the library will be hosting an online virtual Scholastic Book Fair from November 30-December 13th. Check out some great books and cool items that will be available to buy online only.

Print Checkouts - Fall Semester

Students will be able to check out print library materials. Instead of coming inside the library to browse for library books, students can browse online library catalog to find books they would like and submit a request using a special online form. If students already know the title of the book they would like to checkout, they can just submit the request using the same special form. Books will then be checked out to students, and delivered to the ELAR teacher on Wednesdays and Fridays. Books can be returned to the book drop, located outside of the library where books are quarantined for a minimum of five days. Students will be able to have up to five books checked out at a time for twenty-one days

If students are virtual, books will be available to pick up from the front office during school hours only. Students will be notified via student email that the book(s) are ready for pickup. If books are not picked up within a week, they will be returned to the library. Books can be returned to the front office during school hours.

Please see the links below that will guide your student in checking out print books from our library.

The library will continue to monitor the COVID situation in the respect to libraries and modify policies and procedures as needed. One of our goals is to make sure students are reading and getting print books into their hands is important. We just want to do it safely.

Last Year's Library Books

If you still have books or audiobooks at home from last year, you can either hang onto them until your student comes back to campus or drop them off . If your student moves to another NEISD campus, the books can be turned into that school's library. Have your students be on a lookout for an email from Ms. Jennings the first week of school if they are unsure if he or she still has out a library book. Ms. Jennings will be emailing students at their school email account if they still have a book out from last year. Books that were left in lockers were already turned in and checked in.

Need resource help?

We LIVE by Google but sometimes it's not always the most reliable source to use for information. Luckily, NEISD has purchased some great digital resources that students can use like digital encyclopedias, BrainPop, Sora and other great resources. If your students goes to "Launchpad" on the NEISD main page and logs in with his or her credentials, the resources can be found in the library resources folder. When students then click on one of the resources icons, it will automatically take them there without having to input another password!
