Thornhill Elementary PFC Newsletter
Volume 25, Issue 34, May 11, 2018
Dear Thunderbird Families,
I hope you are all enjoying this warm weather. With just 17 days left to go in the school year, we can certainly say that we are on the home stretch. Where did the year go? I guess the saying is true that time flies when you are having fun.
Teacher Appreciation Week
Everybody knows how amazing our Thornhill teachers are. We know teachers do so many things and much of it goes unnoticed. I have been lucky to see this amazing dedication to your children here for the past five years and all I can say is that Thornhill Teachers Rock! And we appreciate you every day of the year. Without you, our school would not be the great place that it is. Parents, there are a few more weeks left to show your appreciation to our dedicated staff. Let them know how great they are as we are so fortunate to have them.
Sally Bonini's Retirement Party!
Talk about commitment to Thornhill. I cannot begin to list what Mrs. Bonini has done for Thornhill during the past 30 years! Also, did you know she was a student at Thornhill? She loved it so much that she stayed around to work here. Please join us on Friday, June 1 in the Thornhill Auditorium from 6 - 9 p.m. for a celebration of Sally.
Have great weekend.

The Read-A-Thon Is Here
The second-annual Thornhill Read-A-Thon is in full swing! Our kick-off assembly for students took place this past Tuesday, and this year, we have super-exciting programs for adults, families, and students.
How it Works... Students have their own webpage on the Thornhill Read-A-Thon site. Sponsors can donate directly through the students’ webpage. Cash and checks will also be able to be collected and 100 percent will come back to the school. The more sponsors, the more prizes for your student.
Our Read-A-Thon reading sessions in classrooms and the library at school will continue to build our Thunderbird culture of readers. More great news: 90 percent of the funds raised by the Read-A-Thon will be donated to the school, with new and improved great prizes - we will have prizes for kids who read the most and raise the most funds. The class that raises the most donations will get an ice cream party!
And, along with the Read-A-Thon, mark your calendars for these Read-A-Thon related events...
Pajama Night Read-In: Thursday, May 17, from 6 - 7 p.m. in the MPR. **time change!
Meet the Author Parent Coffee Hour and Student Book Reading: Tuesday, May 22, from 8:25 - 9 a.m. in the library.
