PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Tēnā koutou
A big thank you to whānau who helped us out in the weekend for the working bee. We got the sandpit filled with sand, bark on the gardens, bag storage moved and some painting done. We are very appreciative of the help. A special shout out to Nathaniel and Scott Symes who helped out. Scott no longer even has whanau attending the school and Nathaniel has moved on to Intermediate. Great GSS whānau! Thank you!
Hawkes Bay Flood Relief
We raised $792.60 for the Hawkes Bay Schools from our Wacky Wheels Day. Great effort!
School Camp
The Year 5 and 6 camp is nearly here. A big thank you to all of those who have offered to help in some way. The learning the tamariki are exposed to in an outdoor environment is incredibly powerful. They will be challenged!
We are excited that the curriculum we are able to explore at camp this year has a real emphasis on our local stories. It will be exciting to bring those stories back to school for a better understanding of our local area.
I would like to thank the staff who are putting this experience together for our tamariki. It is a huge amount of work including time spent away from their own whānau. We know that this will be an experience that tamariki will remember for the rest of their lives.
Save the Date! Thursday 23 March @ 7.30pm held in Te Puna Atawhai (by the sandpit)
We are incredibly lucky to have amazing whanau that are willing to give back to the parent community.
Dr. Paul Meens, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist , has been working in mental health since 2006. Since 2018, he is one of the psychiatrists at CAMHS at Te Whatu Ora - Health NZ. After his training and work experience in the Netherlands, he enjoys spending his family and work life in the Bay of Plenty.
In Neurodiversity: What is it? , Paul will give an introduction into the diagnoses and background of ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD), while also discussing current talking points around Autism, ADHD and Gender Diversity. He will also attempt to give insight into available treatment options and the impact of neurodiversity and different life domains, such as school and family life.
This is free to attend, we would love to see you there.

Positive Behaviour 4 Learning (PB4L)
This week's focus continues to be: Brain break behaviour
Our key ideas are as follows:
We are sun smart, and always wear a hat outside in T1 and T4
We know to play in the right place at the right time during BB
We return to class promptly
We seek help from duty teachers, when needed
We wait for our turn, patiently
We share equipment, and return it to the right place when we are finished
We keep our hands and feet to ourselves
We use polite words
Thank you for reinforcing these ideas at home too.
Ngā mihi

Teacher in the Paddock Term 2 2023
We are delighted to continue to be able to offer the opportunity for students to attend the Teacher in the Paddock’s One Day Farm/Forest School Programme for Term 2.
This is an outdoor interactive Education Programme, where children can be children with nature, the farm and family life. There is the opportunity for interaction with animals, gardening and food production and learning through the exploration of forest and wetlands. As part of a small group, children have one on one exposure to daily life on a small farm. They will acquire life skills that will give them confidence and resilience for the challenges in today’s world. Operating during school time, this programme provides an opportunity to break from school one day a week and connect with nature and each other.
The programme will run one day a week from Tuesday 9 May to Tuesday 27 June (inclusive) and costs $515 per child (including Kindo fee). It is suitable for all ages. Children come to school at their usual time and get taken out to the farm by minibus and return before the end of the school day.
For more information about the programme please visit https://teacherinthepaddock.co.nz/about/. Places are limited so all expressions of interest, or any questions should be emailed to Kirsty Hudson khudson@goldensands.school.nz by Friday 28th April 2023.
Travel Smart News
Well done everyone that walks, bikes, scooters, skateboards or skates. You are all getting plenty of fresh air! Good job 👍
Congratulations to Hillary 2 on winning the Golden Foot and first place for the
Wednesday challenge with 91% . In second place is Mahy 3 with 88% and in third
place is Rutherford 3 with 86%. Wow those are some high numbers. 🏆
If you don’t know what the Wednesday challenge is, it is when you walk, bike or scooter to school and a Travel Smart Leader comes to your class and collects information about how you travel and encourages more people to use active travel. The best class in the community wins the Golden Foot and the best class in the school gets their name on the big foot in the office. So well done Hillary 2 for winning this week!😀
This message is from Jesse and Kennedy.
