Jan. 16-20, 2017

Math

Tuesday, we will be regrouping 10's into 100's to solve 2 digit multiplication problems. Wednesday, the students will be solving multiplication problems, comparing their solutions, and selecting the solution that best answers the question. Thursday, we will go over the answers to the Ch. 5 Math Review. The students will bring home their journals that evening to help them review for their test. The students will take the Ch. 5 Math Test on Friday.

Reading & Social Studies

This week, we will again be incorporating our Social Studies with our Reading. We will be reading about heroes of the Civil Rights movement, discussing various examples of segregation, & highlighting important events in the life of Martin Luther King Jr.

Writing & Spelling

This week, the students will continue to work on writing the rough draft of their informational writing piece.


In Spelling, we will work with words that contain the schwa sound, analyze proverbs, and solve analogies.

Science

Tuesday, we will watch a video that explains how we inherit traits from our mother & father. We will also see that the phenotype that is expressed is controlled by the dominant gene. Wednesday, the students will combine genes from 2 parent plants to see what phenotype will be expressed in the baby plant. Thursday, we'll learn about Punnett Squares and how they can be used to predict the possible outcomes when 2 plants are crossed. Friday, the students will begin analyzing the plants that they have grown and decide which traits are dominant and which are recessive.
