Colts Chronicle
A Cimarron Middle School community communication.
A Note from the Front Office
We've had a great start to the school year. We appreciate all your support and patience in helping us ensure a smooth start and transition for our staff and students. Please review the reminders and announcements listed below regarding our upcoming events and opportunities.
Starting next week we will conduct Friday drawings for prizes to give out to students for receiving a “RED” card. These cards are given to students who demonstrate “Respectful, Excellent and Determined” qualities at school. This is a great way to encourage positive behavior and celebrate our wonderful students.
If you are able please donate $5 gift cards to a good cause. Students love Fika, Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Berry Blendz, Swirls, Target gift cards. Your support is greatly appreciated!
If you have not already done so, please remember to complete Express Check-In - the Douglas County School District application that allows parents to update household information, sign off on district forms, update health conditions and select school fees.
Please see Important Forms & Links on the Enrollments tab of Cimarron’s website for excellent references and to request updates to emails, phone numbers, your address, or emergency contact names.
DCSD Funding Facts
As you may know, the Douglas County School District is considering an initiative to help address funding challenges in our school district. Additional funding would be critical for us here at Cimarron. Our staff is amazing and absolutely dedicated to our students and they deserve pay that is more competitive with other school districts - this will help us retain the amazing teachers and support staff that work with your kids every day. Additional funding would also enable our school to continue to make necessary upgrades and repairs to provide your student with a comfortable and safe learning environment.
Please watch the video below and share it on your own social media page(s) so others can understand how schools such as ours are funded. Talking to our taxpayers in Douglas County will take all of us working together! Please take the time to learn more by visiting www.dcsdk12.org/funding. Want to get involved? Traffic and Transportation Reminders
We understand that times of congestion and short delays are unavoidable during morning and afternoon school traffic. Please stay alert and off cell phones. Focus on safety by obeying all traffic flow, roadway, and pedestrian signs at and around Cimarron. Finally, be a good neighbor by avoiding the residential neighborhoods in the area. The surrounding neighborhoods are not designed to handle increased and excessive school traffic.
Students walking or biking:
- Students need to cross streets in areas with crossing guards or designated crosswalks. Please note there is a new designated crosswalk on Buffaloberry by the bus loop entrance!
- Bikes can be locked up at the bike racks on the north side of the school and scooters can be stored in the school by the commons.
Personal vehicle transportation:
- The only drop-off option is to travel through the traffic loop at the front of the building. The surrounding roadways are not monitored for safety and are not designed to allow drop-off and pick-up.
- When arriving in the area of the school, please don’t commit traffic violations, especially: speeding, double turns and turning from the wrong lane, blocking intersections or crosswalks, U-turns, getting stuck in intersections or crosswalks on a red light, and stopping where prohibited. A patient and courteous driver is a safe driver.
- Once on the school grounds, please focus on safety and efficiency by following staff member instructions. Staff is positioned at key locations for student safety and to direct traffic.
- Pull forward as far as possible and fill in all empty spaces. Have your passengers ready to exit when your vehicle stops.
- Drop off students in the marked zones. The parking lot is not an option for unaccompanied students. The lot is heavily traveled and is not monitored.
Bus transportation
- The bus entrance and bus loop are for buses only. For safety, parents are not permitted to use this area unless pre-approved by (person/people) for medical / mobility purposes.
