Sunday Shakedown
Weekly Memo for Washington Elementary
Principal Post
As you may remember, I like to listen to podcasts. The particular interview I was listening to ended with a question, one that caused me to reflect, not just as a wife and mom, but as an educator and leader. The question was, "What is saving your life right now?". It was fascinating to me to consider the responses. It made me wonder, as educators, when days are long, when children are challenging, when home lives are barriers to success, when time seems to escape, when more hands are needed, and on and on...I wondered what is saving your life right now? So an answer that I heard, also rang true with me. Optimism and creativity. Fundamentally, educators believe that we are making a difference and we have hope for the future of children's lives. I think this meant something to me because we show up each day and are prepared to start fresh, move forward, and are resolute. In addition, it is our creativity and willingness to meet the individual needs of students that motivates me. We problem solve. We keep trying. We find a way...perhaps even a way that has never been tried before. This is us...optimistic and creative...and I am so thankful.

For Your Information:
- I have been through several mornings to see your commitment to morning meetings. This week, I am hopeful to be through on Thursday to see the formal Class meetings with agenda books, compliments and class problem solving.
- Related arts teachers, I would like you to begin joining a center one morning a week to participate in morning meetings/class meetings. Please work as a team to choose which center you will join and what day you prefer. This will only be from 8:10-8;30 one day a week. Your participation in this important routine will only enhance the culture of our school.
- Remember our dedication to 2 positive parent contacts a week. This can be note, email, or call. The power of depositing in a parents' emotional bank account is critical to a supportive relationship.
- Remember to give your $7 to Angie if you plan to order Chick-Fil-A for field day
- REMINDER!What is your music 911 song? Have you ever had a time when that perfect song changes your mood? Our social committee and I thought it would be fun to make a playlist of those songs that are our music 911 songs. We will play one at every faculty meeting. Please follow this link to list your 911 song.
