Academic and Career Planning (ACP) Reminder!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you about the Academic and Career Planning (ACP) process. Our mission in Waukesha is to develop in our students the capacity to be college, career, and community ready. The primary goal of Academic and Career Planning is to produce responsible graduates who will begin their adult life with the knowledge, skills, motivation, and a self-directed plan for career and lifelong success.
Academic and Career Planning is an ongoing process for students in grades 6-12. At each grade level, students will receive learning experiences focused on academic and career planning geared for their level with guidance from teacher mentors, counselors, peers, families and the community.
Each year students will set, reflect, and revise their goals within their personal Academic & Career Plan. Student goals and plans are expected to change annually based on their personal experiences. Students use a platform called Xello to assess themselves as learners, investigate and explore various pathways careers and post high school options.
We encourage families to review your student’s Xello profile together as this can be a great way to start a conversation around their goals as they relate to academic, career, and personal goals. As exploration is a key focus of Academic and Career Planning process, you may not see a clearly identified career focus, the reflection and conversation that occurs as a result may be essential in the shaping of your student’s future goals.
In Xello, students have the option to generate a shareable link to their profile, which they can use to connect with friends, mentors, and more. Students can also share this link with their parents, who can then view their child’s profile without needing a username and password. Sit with your student and complete the following steps:
On any page in Xello, from the top right corner, students click their avatar and select Share your profile.
* Or, from beneath their name on the About Me page, students click Share your Profile to open a preview of their shareable profile. From the top right corner of the profile, students click Share.
From the Share Your Profile window, switch the toggle to ON to get a shareable link.
Students can copy and share the link with parents or other people with whom the student wants to share their Xello profile.
Note: A unique URL is created when the user turns on the share option. It does not exist until that happens. There is no way to access the profile until this link is activated by the student. The student can also turn the link off.
The school district website will contain other information and resources related to Academic and Career Planning. If you have any questions regarding Academic Career Planning, please contact your school counselors.
Thank You
