Gabilan Elementary School
February. 20 - March 3, 2023
Greenfield Science Workshop (LCAP Goal 2):
This week the Greenfield Science Workshop was in full effect at Gabilan! Students did many wonderful experiments and projects that enlivened their love of science this week. Laughter and lightbulbs were going off in students minds everywhere we looked as they participated!
Employees of the Month (LCAP Goal 5):
Two of our wonderful employees were featured in person at this past week’s board meeting! We had the chance to celebrate them and are so thankful that they are part of the Gabilan Team!
Rosa Canchola is the smiling face that you first see when you open the door to our school. Rosa is always striving to do what is best for kids and staff. She is an amazing secretary that anticipates your needs before even asked. Her willingness to go above and beyond is truly unmatched. Rosa is always there to support the team no matter how big or small the ask is. We are lucky to have her on the team! Congratulations, Rosa!
Joaquin Garcia is our amazing 6th-grade teacher. He has made huge strides over the years growing from when he was a first-year teacher to becoming a true veteran. He wants nothing more than to see his students succeed and is dedicated to pulling out all the stops to do so. He is also a huge advocate for PLCs (Professional Learning Communities) and has been instrumental in our process for bettering ours at Gabilan. He also has taken to mentoring and supporting newer teachers in the process. Additionally, he is a team player who’s creative lessons are burned into his student’s brains for years to come! We are so grateful he is on the Gabilan team! Congratulations, Joaquin!
Student Spotlight (LCAP Goal 2):
Also at this past week’s board meeting, we had the joy of highlighting that here at Gabilan, it is not just staff that are setting up safe environments. Students are doing it as well. I would like to introduce Melany Garcia-Vaca to you all. Melany always wants to help other students. She goes out of her way at recess and lunches to support students in doing the right thing and striving to be their best by being a role model. Melany spends every lunch recess in the cafeteria assisting with supporting our youngest learners to get their lunch. She is truly selfless and is a model of kindness. Thank you, Melany for all that you do for Gabilan!
Protocol for Common Formative Assessments (LCAP Goal 2):
Here is a fantastic snapshot of a great protocol that we can use when using CFAs for reference! More at a staff meeting soon!
