Indian Creek Elementary - October 2015
Principal's Message
I am very excited to share that all Indian Creek students have full access to Lexia Core 5 this school year. Lexia Core 5 is a personalized online reading program. Lexia addresses six areas of reading including Phonological Awareness, Phonics, Structural Analysis, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension all at each student’s individual level. Lexia Core 5 generates an individual learning path for every student based on their needs in all six areas. Consistent Lexia usage has been proven to accelerate reading skills.
Consistently is the key to Lexia success. Students are assigned usage minutes each week based on their need. Usage minutes range from 20 to 80 minutes a week. Students are highly encouraged to utilize Lexia Core 5 outside the school day to help them reach the usage minutes each week. Lexia Core 5 is available for both Apple and Android and can also be downloaded for use on your home desktop computer. Throughout the year Indian Creek will celebrate our students who are both meeting their Lexia usage minutes and are moving up in levels.

Harvest Hoopla 2015!
Once again, Indian Creek continued its proud tradition of bringing families together in support of our annual Harvest Hoopla. All in attendance shared in a memorable evening AND raised funds towards enhancing our students' classroom learning experiences. A special thanks goes out to all of the parents, staff, Indian Creek Alumni, Dad's Club, and Lawrence High Schools Key Clubs and Drama Club members for volunteering for this year's event.

Hospitality Committee
- Do you have a favorite family recipe?
- Do people always comment on how great your dish is at a pitch-in?
- Do you like to bake or cook?
- Do you like to recognize and spoil teachers?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, this is the committee for you!
This group of volunteers treats the teachers to several special lunches and gatherings during the school year. We communicate the needs via e-mail, you respond with what you can provide, and then make sure it’s at IC on the designated day, by the designated time. You can usually drop off early in the morning before you head to work! The PFO usually provides the entrée, and committee members donate side dishes, salads, desserts, and drinks. We also coordinate Teacher Appreciation Week, monthly birthday cake celebrations, and monthly teacher mailbox goodies.
Our next event will be dinner for teachers during Parent Teacher conferences on Oct. 19th. We will be in need of volunteers to help serve and help with food donations.
