Why is skin cancer a concern in Australia?
Because most people go out in the sun in Australia. The UV radiation from the sun is the number one cause of skin cancer. Australians should also be concerned because people with fair skin, freckled skin, skin that burns easily, light eyes and blond or red hair has the greatest risk of skin cancer.
Facts of skin cancer!!!
Over 750,000 people Australians are treated for skin cancer, that's over 2,000 people every day.
Around 2,000 people die from skin cancer every year.
In 2013, 374 people died from melanoma.
89% of Victorians are alive five years following a diagnose of melanoma.
Melanoma
Melanoma is the least common but the most dangerous cause of skin cancer. The first way to know you have skin cancer is when you get a new spot or if a new spot or a recent mole is deformed.
Squamous Cell Carcinoma
SCC is not as dangerous as Melanoma but can spread around your body very quickly. It usually is common found on your ears and lips if not treated immediately.
Basal Cell Carcinoma
BCC is the most common and is the least dangerous type of skin cancer. BCC often appears scaly and red and are mostly fond on the ears, nose, face and neck.
Why do we wear sunscreen?
Because if we didn't wear sunscreen you could have a chance of skin cancer like the ones above. 75% of us don't put suncreen on everyday, but sunscreen is one of the tools you can buy for anti-ageing, 90% of people are ageing is because they don't put sunscreen on.
