Pomperaug Elementary School

PES Newsletter 10/14/21

Tomorrow is our first Fitness Friday. All students and staff can wear comfy/athletic clothes to school. Students will have a physical movement break in class! Let's get moving!

Several Board of Education members and Superintendent Smith came and visited PES yesterday! They enjoyed seeing all of our students and staff working in classrooms, eating in the cafeteria, and taking part in specials. We have so much to be proud of here at PES!

Tomorrow, Friday, October 15th you will be receiving your child(ren)'s NWEA scores and parent report. If you have a student in 4th or 5th grade you will also receive their SBA scores. If you have any questions on your child(ren)'s progress please contact their teacher.

A couple of gentle reminders:

-Please do not pull your car in to the bus circle.

-Please check-in on School Dismissal Manager when picking up your child(ren) at the end of the day.

Have a great day!

Calling ALL Veterans!!

We Want to HONOR You!!

While our Veteran’s Day Celebration may once again look different than years past, PES is looking forward to honoring our veterans at an assembly on Thursday, November 11th.

We are inviting veterans to participate in this treasured event in a few ways.

  • First, feel free to email a photo of your veteran to be shared on our Wall of Honor. Photos can be emailed to Kristyn Mastropietro at kmastropietro@region15.org. Be sure to include the name of your veteran, the branch they served in, and the years they served. If you have sent in a photo in the past few years, it has been saved and you do not need to send in another one.

  • This year we are looking for Veterans to share a little bit about themselves, their time serving and possibly a story or 2. It would be wonderful to pre-record these shares and send them out to classroom teachers to play in the classroom! We are asking veterans to use the Flip Grid link below to create a short video telling us about themselves. Please use the password VeteransDay to access the FlipGrid. There are basic directions of how to use it but please feel free to reach out for help! (kmastropietro@region15.org)

Flip Grid: PES Veteran Shares

  • Students have always taken great pride in inviting their veterans back to the classroom after the assembly. This year, we are inviting veterans to “meet” with remote and in-person students for a live question and answer time. If you are interested in participating in a Google Meet session with a class, please click on the link below and complete the Google Form.

We would like our students to wear red, white, and blue to show their patriotism on November 11th. We look forward to honoring our veterans for their sacrifice and service. The PES community is humbled and grateful!

PES Storybook Pumpkin Contest

Please check out this flyer for our annual pumpkin decorating contest. This is one of the most fun things to happen in the Media Center each year. It will be exciting to have the pumpkins back in "real life" this year! If you have any questions or concerns, please email Mrs. Mastropietro, kmastropietro@region15.org.
