MRS. DETTMER'S NOTES
We did it! We had a full week of school! It was great to see students enjoying the last week of roller skating, Cinderella Ball, Valentine Celebrations, and all of the growth they continue to work on each day.
I will be in Phoenix for several days this week learning more to bring back and share with teachers and students. If you have a need or concern, please feel free to call and speak with Mr. Darnell (counselor) or email me. I will be checking in each day with Mrs. Huffman as well as checking email on a regular basis. Have a great week!

(This was sent home at the beginning of the school year.) If we are caught by surprise (flood days last year) we will have the building open by 9 am to allow access to pick up the device and charger. All work can be completed after snow days as well. Students will have a total of 3 days after the E-Learning day to complete the assignments. Let's hope the warm weather continues!

Welcome SRO Officer Clark
My name is Deputy Teancum Clark, and I am a School Resource Officer (SRO) employed by the Bartholomew Sheriff Office and assigned to the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation. I am originally from Peru, Indiana and moved to Columbus in 2002. I have 5 years of work experience at the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, and a great deal of that time has been spent with kids and young adults alike. I am very much looking forward to getting to know and work with the students in our schools.
My office is located at Southside Elementary. I am certified by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO), and my role in the school is based on the concepts taught by this organization. Contrary to the belief of some, the purpose of the SRO in the schools is NOT to increase arrests. In fact, arrests are an extremely low percentage of SRO interactions, and our goal is actually to look for alternatives to making arrests. The vast majority of SRO interactions are positive in nature as we strive to help students make good decisions before problems occur.
The School Resource Officer program is a nationally accepted program involving the placement of a certified law enforcement officer within the educational environment on several different levels. This partnership between the BCSC and the Sheriff’s office allows the SRO to work closely with the school administration to provide a safe learning environment, law related education and the expertise of a trained law enforcement officer on campus.
The SRO is involved in a variety of functions.
●As a visible, active law enforcement figure on campus dealing with any law-related issues.
●As a classroom resource for instruction in the following areas: law related education, violence diffusion, safety programs, alcohol and drug prevention, crime prevention and other areas.
●As a member of the faculty and administrative team working hand in hand to solve problems in the school community.
●As a resource for the students enabling them to be associated with a positive law enforcement figure in the student’s environment.
●As a resource for the teachers, parents and students for law related concerns and questions.
●As a counseling resource in areas which may affect the educational environment and may be law related.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me in my office or by email. My contact information is as follows:

The Weather is Changing
Note From Nurse
As a reminder, please keep your child home for 24 hours if they are experiencing fever, vomit, or diarrhea. As with any illness the best defense is to keep up with good hand hygiene, keeping distance from those who are ill, and covering coughs and sneezes. The upcoming months typically bring the most illness, let’s try to keep our kids and our school healthy! Please contact the nurse, Mrs. Barker, with any questions or concerns.

How can you help Rockcreek? - Coca-Cola and Office Depot
Dear Parents,
We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This opens up Rockcreek to new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students.
The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply enter the product codes here: https://us.coca-cola.com/give/schools/ and our school receives a donation.
Help Rockcreek make the most of this program and learn more at Coke.com/give.
