This Monday Memo is dedicated to giving you the details that you will need to know for the next couple of weeks as we prepare for our iPad Launch. Please read carefully and be flexible as there may be a few changes as we move forward.

iPad Launch

Monday, Oct. 5th, 10am-3pm

5100 South Independence Avenue

10:00 am Opening Ceremony

10:45 am - 12:45 pm School Wide Sack Lunch Picnic (rotation)

10:45-11:45 5th & 6th Grade iPad Handout Auditorium (media interviews and photos)

1:00-3:00 iPad Orientation Classroom Activities

Offsite Parking Location~ Christmas Connection Store

Monday, Oct. 5th, 2-4pm

Shuttle will run round trip every 15-20 minutes to pick/drop off at parking lot and Arthur.

Arthur Parking lot will be reserved for district leadership, elected officials, media, Apple executives, event vendors and those needing handicapped parking. All staff, volunteers, community will need to use off site parking for the day.

Teachers and Staff are HIGHLY encouraged to bring a sack lunch! Regular lunch and planning times might not be possible.

Classroom Volunteers

We are working towards staffing each classroom with two volunteers. If this plan works out, each of you will have an Apple Retail store volunteer, and an OU Teacher Ed student in your classrooms to help with iPad distribution in your classroom and assist as needed as you guide your students in orientation and exploration activities. The Apple Retail volunteers are coming from OKC, Tulsa and Dallas to be a part of our big day.

What should classroom teachers focus on?

Procedures!!!!

The best plans are most successful when there is a foundation of procedures and expectations. Please, introduce and make classroom charts for your iPad procedures and expectations. Do not wait until the day before. Review the presentation that was sent last week with your students and...add your own if needed. I'd like to see these up and discussed in classrooms this week. I know its a lot to ask and there's a lot to do.

Digital Citizenship

Throughout the last several weeks we've sent links and suggested lesson plan/activities from Common Sense Media. You may find teacher edition and student workbooks on iTunes to download and I will ask Aaron to push these to your devices and later to student devices. Start now with teaching some of the Common Sense Media lessons. Include this information in your lesson plans.

Your classroom number management system

Ensure that all students know their classroom number which will correspond with their iPad slot in the cart.

T-Shirts

Each staff member, volunteer and student will receive a free T-shirt. They will arrive on Monday the 28th of September. We will get the shirts out to Staff early in the week. Please wear them on Monday, October 5th. Student shirts will be distributed to teachers on the Friday, the 2nd of October. DO NOT send them home. You will give them to students to wear over their uniform shirts on Monday, Oct 5th.

Parent Notes and Alert Calls

Parent invites will be sent out in Thursday Folders, October 1st.

Alert Calls/Texts call reminders will go out Friday night and Sunday afternoon.

iPad Accessories

iPad charger and earbuds will be distributed to classroom teachers during the first week.

iPad earphones should be kept at school, in a central location in your classroom, use as needed. Parents may provide earphones for home use.

iPad chargers may be sent home with students when iPads go home.

For Your Information....

We are still working out details for Intersession for our students in '"red".


Reminder: Students are not to bring personal games, toys, tablets, electronics, or balls.


Everyday Math Trainer will be in the building tomorrow. We will try to provide coverage for a few classes. Look for a separate email with details.


If you need technical assistance with your MacBook or iPad, please submit your request through the help desk ticket (under staff tools) on the OKCPS website. Look for ConnectED service request. These go directly through to Aaron. This will help prioritize and document the needs.
