Principal Ponderings: Bravery
Last week, when I opened up Facebook I was met with a friend request from a close friend whom I spent a lot of time with in our mid-20s. I shot him a text telling him this made my day, but after opening up his profile page I was met with a sad dose of reality. There was a GoFundMe page for his family after his daughter (5-6 years old) was recently diagnosed with AFM. After I read a bit on what AFM was it was clear that my friend, his wife, and their daughter have a long road ahead of them, yet, he has maintained nothing but a positive mindset filled with hope. This is the epitome of bravery in my mind. When the stark truth of our present reality is dark and the future is unknown, yet, we choose to maintain a mindset of hope and possibility.
Who do you know that is showing bravery such as this? Let them know. They probably need to hear it.

What I'm Reading: Toughness, Jay Bilas
Next play. That is a philosophy that Bilas shared that Coach K (hoops coach at Duke) uses with his players so that they don't dwell on mistakes or during a turn of events in an intense game. Bilas shares with the reader that to be mentally tough we all have to move on to the next play. In our world, it may be the next lesson, the next student, parent, or colleague interaction, the next (insert anything here). Toughness is moving on mentally so that we can improve and give our best effort the next time. Our own Coach B. Keim will remind us that E+R=O (Event+Response=Outcome).
