A Note from Our Principal

Dear North Beach Families:

As of this writing, COVID-19 rates in King County are very close to meeting the rate per 100,000 cases indicator for Phase 3. Governor Inslee has already put the entire state in Phase 3, but this is positive news nonetheless. The CDC modified mask guidelines last week, allowing fully vaccinated citizens to go without masks in certain areas. The district is holding with the last advisory stating all people will continue to wear masks in schools and on school property. Therefore, staff and students will continue to wear masks for the remainder of the year. We also welcome the news that students ages 12-15 are now eligible for the Pfizer vaccine. Now, hopefully, it won’t be long before elementary students are eligible, and we can see the light at the end of the dark COVID tunnel. For more information on in-school vaccine as well as community vaccine clinics, go to https://www.seattleschools.org/district/calendars/news/what_s_new/covid-19_vaccine.

Enjoy this glorious weather and we will see you next week.

Sincerely,

Kristine McLane

PNW Parent Education Presentation: Digital Safety 101

After more than a year of remote schooling, nonstop developments in educational technology, and social media overload -- now more than ever -- it’s important for families to educate themselves on digital safety. To address this, we’re partnering up with PNW Parent Education (www.pnwparented.org) for a presentation titled, “Digital Safety 101”. Jo Langford, dad, Master’s-level therapist, author and sex educator for tweens, teens and parents, will help parents figure out how to balance their family’s digital life with boundaries, etiquette, and good judgement. This FREE online educational event is on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 6:30 pm. If you are interested in attending, please register at: https://tinyurl.com/digitalsafety2021.

This relevant and engaging presentation will also include the following information:

  • An overview of youth behavior in a digital age: the risks and benefits of online life;

  • Raising digital natives: setting up guidelines and house rules for safety;

  • Roadmap of highways & potholes of digital development;

  • Q&A with guest moderator: Christy Keating of the Heartful Parent.

Lastly, while watching the event, you can order a delicious family meal from The Extra Ingredient: https://www.exploretock.com/theextraingredient/.
