TALENT ED Formative Focus and PROFESSIONAL GOALS
Teachers, do not forget that you will need to submit the Formative Focus and end of year Professional goal form. If you don’t have data to report on, simply state that "due to the extended closure of school you I not have end of year data to report" or "due to the end of the year, here's the limited data I have to report."
For your Formative Focus professional learning form, reflect on any PD you have participated in throughout the year, including our Monday PDs that took place after March 13, 2020. A reflection should include what you learned, how you applied what you learned, and the impact it had on student learning. Please also include what you would still like to learn so that we can begin to plan for 20/21..
Deadlines:
*Probationary teachers: Formative Option and Professional Goals due no later than May 22
*Continuing contract teachers: Formative Option and Professional Goals due no later than May 29

2020-2021 PROFESSIONAL LEARNING PROGRAM (PLP) INFORMATION AND REGISTRATION
The purpose of this memo is to provide information regarding the essential professional learning sessions of the Professional Learning Program (PLP) and the registration process for 2020-2021. The program reflects a commitment to support teachers through relevant and sustained learning opportunities that are high quality, differentiated and flexible. As part of the PLP, the Department of Teaching and Learning has identified and planned essential professional learning based on curricular or program needs. These sessions will vary based on teaching assignment. The links below list the essential sessions by teaching assignment. While most sessions are intentionally planned during the summer to provide teachers time to prepare for new or updated curriculum or programs, there are some sessions that occur during the school year.
PLP registration will take place using Frontline. Staff may access Frontline from any location with internet access. Links to Frontline are located on both the intranet and the Virginia Beach City Public Schools website. Beginning May 15, all instructional staff may access the online catalog and register for essential sessions. As a reminder, choice professional learning activities that are offered during the summer and next school year are published in the catalog on an ongoing basis.
Teachers should prepare for registration on May 15 by doing the following:
Review the essential professional learning sessions for the teaching assignment.
Read the PLP Overview and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document posted on the PLP intranet page.
Check their Frontline user profile to make sure it accurately represents the teaching assignment. Without an accurate user profile, teachers will be not be able to see all the activities targeted to the appropriate grade level and subject areas and will not be notified as new activities are added during the year. Directions are posted on the PLP Intranet page. For assistance, teachers may email the Office of Professional Growth and Innovation at pgi@vbschools.com.

SCHOOLOGY AND DIGITAL LEARNING ONE-TO-ONE INITIATIVE EVALUATIONS: STUDENT AND STAFF SURVEYS
There will be upcoming survey data collection efforts for the evaluations of the school division’s Schoology implementation and Digital Learning One-to-One Initiative. As a reminder, the School Board approved the 2019-2020 Program Evaluation Schedule, which included a recommendation to evaluate both initiatives. The evaluation for the Schoology initiative this year will focus on implementation across schools and transformational learning outcomes. The Digital Learning One-to-One Initiative evaluation will focus on student and staff perceptions of the digital learning experience using the devices assigned to students by the schools. Data for both evaluations will be interpreted within the context of the school closure as the Continuity of Learning and Emergency Learning plans were implemented.
Perception data related to both initiatives will be collected through one survey administration by surveying the following groups: students, administrators, teachers, instructional technology specialists and technology support technicians. Schools will be responsible for administering the student survey to all students in grades 3 through 12 by encouraging student participation. The Office of Research and Evaluation (ORE) will send survey invitations directly to staff members.
Student Survey: All students in grades 3 through 12 should be provided the opportunity to complete the student survey. The student survey will be administered online. The window will extend from Monday, May 18, through Friday, May 29. The student survey may take approximately 10 minutes to complete. On Monday, May 18, ORE staff will be posting a message with the survey link through each school’s Schoology student group to notify students to complete the survey and will be adding a calendar event containing the same information to each school’s Schoology calendar.
Schools may also choose to post the survey link in another location using the link below and the following announcements:
The elementary student survey will be available at the following link and will open May 18:https://www.research.net/r/1920ElementarySchoology
Optional Elementary Message: For Students in Grades 3 through 5 Only: We are getting information from students about Schoology and digital learning. Please take this survey to tell us what you think. The survey link is here:
https://www.research.net/r/1920ElementarySchoology. The last day to take the survey is May 29. Please only take the survey once. You will not be able to take the survey Saturday, May 23, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. due to scheduled survey website repairs. Thank you!
The last day to participate is May 29. Please only take the survey once for your school. The survey will not be available Saturday, May 23, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. due to scheduled survey website maintenance. Thank you for your feedback!
Staff Survey: The staff survey will be administered online. The ORE staff will send survey invitations directly to the VBCPS email address of principals, assistant principals, teachers, instructional technology specialists and technology support technicians Monday, May 18. The email will come from surveys@vbschools.com. The administration of the staff survey will remain open through Friday, May 29.
Note: All surveys will be unavailable Saturday, May 23, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. due to scheduled SurveyMonkey.com/Research.net site maintenance.
