February 12th - Affirmations
This year more than ever, we'd like our students to receive some positive affirmations.
Based on this, on February 12th:
- wear red or pink (something Valentine is good)
- you will get a heart for every student (they will be in your box)
- pair your students and let them write something to their partner on the heart
- There will be one giant heart per class on the wall outside the library where your students can tape their hearts.
- Please tape hearts in the morning if possible so kids can see the positivity we have with our fellow Panthers!
Think on this....
"If a child memorizes ten words, then the child can read ten words. But, if the child can learn the sounds of ten letters, the child can read...
350 three-sound words
4,320 four-sound words
21,650 five-sound words

3-5 Teachers Assessment LPACs
On Monday February 1 you will receive an email from Ellevation to go in and make recommendations for testing accommodations based on Linguistic needs.
The three areas you can recommend for English learners through the LPAC are:
- Content and Language supports
- Extra Time
- Oral / Signed Administration
Remember that if a student is recieving any of these from Sped, 504, or RTI you do not need to recommend it again. We will note the "other" recommendation during the Assessment LPAC.
February 1 - 5: Make assessment accommodation recommendations in Ellevation.
Click sheet for assigning designated supports.
February 10 : Assessment LPAC meetings to be held during PLCs.

Look at how many questions our students have answered on Prodigy this month so far. (in only 5 days…) It is exciting to see how much they are using the program at home! Go Mrs. Law and Mrs. Parker!!!
E-messages from Esther....
Reminders:
1069's for February were due 2/5/2021, if you have not already completed them please do so ASAP.
Please have students complete their Monthly I-station test.
Please remind your Remote students that we will be MAP testing next week, ask them to arrive promptly at 8:15 and 12:15 to ensure that they have enough time to finish.
Substance from Selena....
I have been taking general notes to pass along while assessing with DRA besides just the individual student notes. One consistent findings so far is that most students prefer reading with a partner or group because they can either hear how words are read correctly, or they can ask a friend for help. I will send a list of all findings after completion 🙂
Orthographic Mapping: Discover the Treasure (K-5)
February 18, 2021
4:00-5:00 p.m.
In this synchronous virtual learning experience via Zoom, participants will gain insight into how children build words into their sight word memory. Printed word recognition depends on fast, accurate orthographic mapping. According to Louisa Moats, orthographic mapping is the mental process used to store words for immediate and effortless retrieval. It requires phonemic awareness, letter-sound knowledge, and the mechanism for sight word learning. Participants in this session will explore ways to incorporate orthographic mapping into their daily phonics instruction.
