Tech Talk
February 2018
Let's Collaborate!
I would love to talk with you (or your team!) about incorporating technology into your classroom in ways that are effective and meaningful for you and your students. Check out my instructional technology coaching menu, then stop by the tech bar, email me at paigeh2@norman.k12.ok.us, or sign up for a tech talk at a time that works for you.
If you're doing something cool in your classroom- technology related or not- I would love to know so I can come learn from you!
Teacher v. Student Macs
It's a good idea to be aware of the differences between teacher and student macbooks. This will prevent students from being asked to do things that aren't possible for them and will save everyone frustration. Click here for a side by side view of teacher versus student macbooks.
Let's Talk Tech (Integration)!!
Want to use more technology in the new year? Sign up for a Tech Talk! Go to goo.gl/9WThDP and choose a time that is convenient for you. You can sign up alone or as a team, and I will happily come to you. I can't wait to collaborate!
Student Printing Tips
As you probably already know, students are now printing directly from their Macbooks to the student printer in the library. Here are some tips to help students print more efficiently:
- Students can connect to the printer from anywhere in the building. It can take student prints a minute to show up on the printer, so it's a good for students to push print before the come to the library.
- When students come to pick up their printing, even if they've already pushed print, they should bring their MacBooks with them. This is in case of printer or student error- they will save time by not having to back to class and push print again.
- Students should ONLY be printing from their OWN computer. The person whose computer was printed from is whose account the prints will show up on, so that person will have to long into the printer. Students should not print from other students' computers. We will not be able to provide other students' login information in order to pick up prints.
Cool Tools- Oldies but goodies
OverDrive
OverDrive is a free service that lets you borrow digital content (eBooks, audiobooks) anytime, anywhere. Students can connect to OverDrive via Norman Public Schools or Pioneer Library. Since collections are chosen by library, students will find a variety of books in both places. Books from Overdrive can be read or listened to on any device. Students who need help with Overdrive should visit the Tech Bar in the Learning Commons.
Piktochart
Piktochart is a web-based infographic application that allows inexperienced users to create visuals using themed templates that include infographics, posters, reports, flyers, and presentations. Visuals can be used online or embedded into a website. Piktochart is a GREAT way for students to demonstrate their learning.
Quizlet
Quizlet is a free web and mobile based application students can use to study using flashcards, games, and quizzes. It's an excellent tool for developing foundational knowledge and appeals to multiple learning styles. Even the free version included targeted feedback and adaptive training. Quizlet's newest game, Quizlet Live, is a great way to engage students and use technology in the classroom.
