Book Orders

I have attached a book order. These are due back on Friday, October 2nd. If you are ordering from more than one flyer, you can make ONE check out, payable to Scholastic. You can also order online using our class code: L3VVQ.

AR Party

There will be an AR party for third graders that meet their AR goals by the end of the first nine weeks, which is October 13th. Students need to meet their goals in 3 areas:
  • Meet or exceed the number of points needed
  • Meet or exceed an 85% average on AR tests
  • Be within or exceed an average AR book level within their ZPD

Your child should be able to pull all of this information up on his/her iPad, but if you have any questions, please let me know.

*One way to meet goals sooner is reading AR books at school AND at home. Students can bring their library books and my classroom books back and forth to be able to continue in a book they are working on. Students are given 30 minutes of AR time to read in class everyday and then should be reading at least 20 minutes a night at home for homework.

Read-a-thon Ends This Week!

Wednesday, September 30th is the last day that students will record their reading time on their read-a-thon calendars. Here are the next steps:

1. Tally up how many hours your child read for the month. (Round up!)

2. Go to the people that agreed to pledge your child for hours read and let them know how many hours your child read.

3. Collect the pledges and turn them in by Friday, October 9th. Your goal is $30 to cover everything. If more money is raised, we will put it to good use with all of the projects we complete this year.

4. If you choose not to participate in the read-a-thon, you can instead just send a check or cash for $30 to cover the class shirt, book, and postage for the letter writing project. Checks can be made payable to Van Elementary School.

Pizza Hut Book It Begins!

Pizza Hut will again be sponsoring the Book It program. To receive free pizza coupon, students simply need to do their 20 minutes of reading each night. I check daily to see if students have written down what they read the night before in their agendas. As long as there is a book title for each day and it is initialed, the student will get his/her pizza coupon.

First Nine Weeks Home Project

College Go Week, Dress as your Career Day, and our first couple of Guest Expert visits have inspired our first big project. Each student will come up with three possible career paths and explore more about each. Details will be spelled out in a handout on Monday.

School Pictures!

Thursday, October 1st is School Picture day! Bring your order form and smiles on that day!
