Deshler Middle School

A Message from Our Assistant Principal
It is hard to believe we are days away from the first day of fall. The year is already slipping away. Middle school is such a transitional phase of life for students. They walk into the middle school as a timid 6th grader and fly out of these doors as an 8th grader excited to begin their last hurdle as a student in Tuscumbia City Schools. As teachers, administration, and support personnel, we have a brief amount of time to motivate and educate our students to be successful and responsible citizens that will lay the groundwork for our future. As our students progress through middle school, we hope to see them advocate for themselves with guidance and take ownership of their learning. When students are intrinsically motivated, the trajectory of their educational path will have no limits to success. Please join us as we encourage students to become independent thinkers and leaders of their own learning.
Reminders:
- After school tutoring is off to a great start. Please keep in mind that during this time, we have one teacher that supports all grade levels. It is imperative that your student come prepared and aware of what they need support with in order for this time to be helpful. At this time, we are not limiting the amount of students. However, if we see that the time is not beneficial to students, we will have a sign up sheet with a maximum limit.
- If a student is absent, they must turn in their excuse within 3 days of the missed day. After 3 days, the absence will be marked as unexcused. This is Tuscumbia City Schools Board Policy.
We are grateful for your continued support and feel confident we are well on our way to achieving our goals for the 2022-2023 school year. It is an absolute privilege to serve in this capacity. I remember the words of my own Deshler Middle School principal who referenced DMS as “The Greatest Little Middle School in America”, and I beam with pride daily as we strive to stand by this mantra.
Thank you and Go Tigers!
