Special Spring Band Concert
The Middle School West band premiered "Two Owls and The Vine" at their Spring Band Concert on May 4, 2023 at 7:00 PM . "Two Owls and The Vine'' was commissioned by The Perkiomen Valley School District and the performance was the culmination of the 2022-2023 artist in residency of Ms. Jill Haley, composer, oboist, and artist. As part of her residency; Ms. Haley researched the Lenape/Delaware peoples who lived on this land that we call home. She took videos and photographs of the White Oak Tree and the Perkiomen Creek and trail that are so meaningful to our community and to the Lenape people. "Two Owls and The Vine" is a musical interpretation of the Kukhusëwim Legend.. We dedicated this piece to the ancestral peoples who once lived in this wonderful valley.
The concert was free and open to the public. Attendees were able to meet the composer, Ms. Haley and the arranger, Mr. Thomas Shade, following the concert. Many thanks to Mrs. Krown and her dedicated and talented band students for a phenomenal performance. We are PV proud of them all!

Mars Rover Landers
Inspired by the NASA Mars rover landing, students in Mrs. Colleen McGuigan's sixth grade science classes were given the opportunity to design and construct their own Mars rover landers. The young engineers worked in groups and used a variety of materials and techniques. The objective was to have a raw egg payload survive unscathed after a drop from the second floor stairwell. The project proved to be an effective, hands-on STEM activity.
LIFT (Learning Is Fun Together) Summer Camps
We are excited to announce we have launched of our 2023 MIDDLE-LEVEL LIFT Summer Camps. We have several exciting offerings this summer (see below)! - Students are responsible for the general care of their issued Chromebook.
- Students must report Chromebooks that are damaged, lost, stolen, or fail to work properly.
- Report any issues to the Chromebook Service Center in your building’s library as soon as possible, and inform your teachers.
- Students are responsible for bringing completely charged Chromebooks to school each day.

Homework Club Updates
There will be no Homework Club for the next two weeks while PSSA's are taking place. Homework Club will resume on Tuesday May 9th.
Homework Club will provide a quiet, comfortable, and supportive setting for students to complete school work and become better organized. Students will receive assistance and support when needed. School resources will also be provided for all students in attendance. There is no sign-up required. If students are attending they can report directly to LGI 123 after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
After School Activity Transportation
- 4:00pm Departure (outside main office) - Monday through Thursday
- 5:00pm Departure (outside gym entrance) - Monday through Thursday
For each day students intend to take either the 4:00pm or 5:30pm activity bus, they are asked to inform the school district and bus company for routing purposes using the electronic form provided. The form links are below and also available to students via the PV LaunchPad - Classlink. Students must submit their information each morning by 10:00 am if they intend to ride the afternoon activity bus that day.
Transportation Reminder
According to our student handbook all students must ride the bus to which they are assigned. The only time a student may ride an alternate bus is for emergency purposes only. Makerspace Club There will be a new club happening every other Wednesday after school called Makerspace. Makerspace is a club where you get to learn to create anything. You get to learn and explore high tech to not tech tools. It can be learning to code or designing anything into something. If you are interested please stop by Ms. LaCava's room for a permission slip to join the club | Debate Club Join the PV West Debate Club. Learn the art of constructing, supporting, and discussing arguments. These skills are an integral part of life in a free society. In Debate club students will engage in a variety of discussions centered around group selected topics. They will learn to argue both their own perspective and the perspectives of others. Students will use evidence based practice to back up arguments as well as learning about logical fallacies and cognitive biases that may lead to poor argument construction. Power Packs
PV Power Packs is a weekend food program for students experiencing food insecurity. Bags of food, including 2 breakfast items, 2 lunch items, 2 snacks, and 2 fruits, are sent home with students prior to every weekend. There is no financial information required to participate in this program and students pick up their bags from their counselor or designated person every week.

Middle School West 8th Grade Baseball
Unsung athletes of the week: The 8th grade baseball team beat Spring-Ford 3 - 1. The offense started quickly with Lucas Aiken driving the 1st pitch of the game into left field and scoring later in the inning on a 2 run single by Riley Patterson. The pitching was clutch! Lucas Aiken, Riley Patterson, and Collin Kim combined to shut down the potent Rams offense and hold them to 1 run. The defense was just as scrappy with Josh Caldwell catching and Tommy Wuerstle making outstanding catches in centerfield.

Nurse Notes - Physical and Dental Exams
Parents of 6th grade students, please know that you are required to submit a physical form for your child during this school year. In addition, if your child receives any immunizations, please submit those as well. Prior to the start of 7th grade, your child will need to receive the Tdap and Meningitis vaccinations, so now is a good time to get those immunizations!
Parents of 7th grade students are required to submit a dental form for your child.
The school physician and the school dentist will be at Middle School West in the Spring of 2023, and your child will be seen by them if the proper form is not handed in prior.
Tween Talk Group
Tweens, ages 11 to 13, are invited to chat in a fun, informal atmosphere with Erin McMonagle, a guidance counselor at Perkiomen Valley East Middle School - as part of our Julia’s Joy Youth Empowerment Program. We have created a safe group, where they can come relax, unload and learn they are not alone all while meeting new friends. We believe learning Stress Management tips will help youth deal with the pressures they are feeling at this age and into the future!
This group is free thanks to donations, if you would like to make a donation, it is always appreciated, but not necessary!

If your child will be absent or missing any class time, please send an email (from the email you have listed in our new SIS system) to:
This will count as your call-out AND parent excuse. Please indicate in your email the date of absence, student’s grade and the reason for the absence. An absence is considered unexcused when the child’s school has not received an email or written parent note providing an acceptable reason for the absence, within a 3-day period.
You may also call our attendance line at: 1 (484) 977-7210, option 1. If you do this, you would still need to submit an email with the above information in order for it to be excused.
Any medical notes or Dr.'s notes should be placed in the Attendance Box, right outside the Guidance Department.

PVSD Food Service Updates
Parents/Guardians put money in their student(s) accounts electronically in SchoolCafe or by sending cash or checks in with their students. For more information about SchoolCafe please go to https://www.pvsd.org/departments/food-service/school-cafe-information/. If you are sending funds in with your students, please note the students’ names and account number on the envelope and ask them to give the envelope to their cashier in the cafeteria.
Upon entering the serving area, students make their selections and enter their 6 digit Student ID number on the pin pad or scanner. Our staff will be happy to help them become more comfortable with the system.
