Conferences

Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences will be held in the SMCHS Commons on Thursday, February 16, from 3:30-6:30pm and again on Friday, February 17 from 8:00–11:30am. Parents and students are invited to meet with teachers to discuss grades and other classroom concerns. Conferences are set up “cafeteria style,” with teachers at tables in the Commons and parents and students meeting with them as teachers are available. Appointments are not required. We look forward to seeing you!

Office Hours February 17 & 20

All SMCHS students are off on Friday, February 17 and Monday, February 20. The high school office will be open from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on February 17 and closed on February 20. The business office will be open both days.

2023-24 SMCS Registration

Current SMCS families do not need to do anything to register for the 2023-2024 school year. Registration fees for the upcoming school year will be added to existing tuition accounts on March 1. If your family does not intend to return to St. Mary Catholic Schools for the 2023-2024 school year, please contact Chris Decker.

Kudos

Congratulations to all VEX Robotics teams on a great tournament at Fox Valley Lutheran. Special congratulations to team 1200A (Charlie Cedergren, Alex Walsh, Ethan Tines, Nate Pable, Nicholas DeBraal, Daniel DuVernay and Sam Foord) for winning the Build Award, going 6-1 in qualifications and getting to the Quarter Finals!

Ski and Snowboard Club 2023

The last ski trip of the season will be Saturday, February 25, at Whitecap Mountain. All paperwork and money is due Thursday, February 23.

Zephyrs Sports Update

Girls Basketball

22-1 overall; 17-1 Conference – Big East North Conference Champions!

Ranked 8th in State in Division 4

SMC girls’ basketball earned the #1 seed in the Division 4 2A sectional bracket! They will host the winner of Necedah vs Green Lake/Princeton on Friday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m.


Boys Basketball

19-2 overall; 14-2 conference – 2nd Place Big East North

Ranked 3rd in State in Division 4

The WIAA will release the boys basketball seeding this Sunday, February 19, in bracket release show. Time is to TBD and it will air online at https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/associations/wiaa-wi


Powerlifting

Powerlifting is preparing for the State meet March 4-5 at the Fox Cities Exhibition Center.


Dance

Is practicing and working on their routine.


Volunteers Needed

Volunteering at our home middle/high school athletic events is mandatory for families that have students participating in sports. Students are allowed to work concession shifts to fulfill the family requirement and can also earn volunteer hours required for graduation.

  3. Then click on Sports/Dance/Schools
  4. You will then find SMCHS Sports '22-'23 and click on it
  5. The Access Code is: 2-3zephyrs
  6. Use the team names on the left-hand side to view your team and individual sports photos
  7. After choosing an image you can click "Buy" and choose your package or product

Emergency Notifications/School Closures

SMCS sends text messages related to school closure dates and other emergencies specific to our SMCS schools via SIMPLE TEXTING. To enroll your phone number, please text SMCS to (844) 947-5948. Zephyrfest 2023

You are invited to join us as we celebrate and support the St. Mary Catholic Schools community and what makes it great. Zephyrfest is our premier fundraiser for SMCS and will take place this year on Saturday, April 29 at the Fox Cities Exhibition Center in Appleton. Ticket information is coming next month.

Senior Scholarships Due March 1

Applications for the following scholarships are due March 1: Community Blood Center, Donald “Don” J. Karisny Underdog, Greenville Civic Club, Kaukauna Utilities, Neenah-Menasha Kiwanis Club, Pheasants Forever, Wisconsin Technical Excellence, Zephyrs. Applications can be found in Naviance.

FVTC Scholarships

Fox Valley Technical College scholarship applications are due March 10.

ACT Reminders

Parents of students taking the ACT test on Tuesday, March 7 will receive an email the week before with testing instructions. Please be sure your child is not scheduled for any appointments until after 1:30pm that day.

Bellin Summer Nursing Camps

Bellin College is accepting applications for their summer Nursing and Medical Imaging camps. Current sophomores and juniors may apply online at https://www.bellincollege.edu/admissions/visit/summer-camps/. Space is limited so apply early!

Marian University Learn While You Earn

Students in grades 9-12 are invited to attend VIRTUAL pre-college courses to learn more about specific careers while earning college credit. Cost is $50 per course; 1 credit earned per course (on a Marian, or other college, transcript only). Participants will receive a $500 scholarship to Marian for each course completed. Registration deadline March 1. Visit https://www.marianuniversity.edu/pre-college/ for complete details.

University of Wisconsin System Updates

2023 UW Application Guidebook - Pre-order requests are being accepted now through April 28. The guidebook provides students with all the information needed to successfully apply to a UW System campus for Fall 2024.

Emma D. Boettiger Scholarships - Two academic scholarships will be awarded to students enrolling full time at a University of Wisconsin System institution starting Fall 2023. The award is $1000 per semester for four consecutive years. Preference will be given to applicants majoring in a health-related field and are due March 24.

Online Placement Testing registration for Summer and Fall 2023 students will begin in March.

NMU Preview Weekend

Northern Michigan University is hosting Wildcat Weekend March 17-18 for students to explore Marquette, Michigan, tour the campus and experience residence hall life. Register here.

Magdalen College

Magdalen Summer Programs allow students to spend two weeks exploring the Catholic faith, a college course of their choosing, the sacraments, and they will engage in reverent liturgies. Use code GOMAGDALEN by February 24 to receive a 10% discount.

AP Registration for Spring Semester Courses and Test Only Exams

Parents with students in 2nd semester only AP courses received an email to confirm their child’s exams - English Literature, Human Geography, Comparative Government & Politics, US Government & Politics, and Macroeconomics. Response is requested by TODAY, February 15.

Women in the Pipe Trades Open House

Explore careers in plumbing, pipefitting, welding, fabrication, and HVAC. Meet four successful women working in the industry, tour the training facility, view demonstrations, and meet contractors. The event will be held on March 8 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the UA 400 Training Facility, 2700 Northridge Drive, Kaukauna. UA 400 also offers paid apprenticeships. RSVPs are appreciated by February 20 but walk-ins are welcome.

K-12 Scholarships for Music/Art Lessons

The Les and Dar Stumpf Youth Arts Scholarship provides financial assistance to students interested in an art discipline. Applications are due April 1. Click here for details.

UWO Preview Events

The University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh campuses are hosting Preview Events on February 15 (Music), April 21 (all majors), and March 2 (Fox Cities Campus).

Spring 2023 College Fairs

Xavier High School - In-person college fair at Xavier High School on Tuesday, March 14 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) - Virtual college fairs on February 19, March 19, and April 23.

Law Enforcement Career Academy

Juniors or seniors interested in law enforcement may apply for the Wisconsin American Legion Law Enforcement Career Academy (WALLECA). This is a five-day program held at the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy in Ft. McCoy July 24 – 28, 2022. There is no cost to students who attend. Apply here by March 31, 2023.

Fox Cities Career Expo

Sophomores will be attending the Fox Cities Career Expo on April 19.

Rotary Luncheons

SMC seniors are invited to attend a luncheon with the Neenah Rotary. Those who attend are eligible to apply for Rotary scholarships in the Spring. Contact Mrs. Hall for details.

FVTC Community Open House & Scavenger Hunt

Join Fox Valley Technical College (Appleton Campus) on Tuesday, February 28 from 3:00 -6:00 p.m. for a free fun family event that includes a scavenger hunt, prizes and a visit to their high-tech labs. Apply for free. No registration is required.
