1F Weekly News
What's been happening in the land of learning?
Hello Everyone,
Thank you to all the parents who were able to participate in the student-led conferences, and of course, thank you to all the students for their hard work getting ready to host such wonderful reflections on your year. We have all set goals for the rest of the school year and will be working hard to reach them in the coming weeks.
We have some fun events coming up:
We are starting a new Social Studies, Reading and Writing units this week. Please see the attached unit letters for more information. We will take a closer look at how our community has changed from past to present, how we can better observe the characters in our stories, and we will revisit Personal Narratives and set writing goals for how to improve this time around.
Sunday morning, our Math Coordinator, Carol Little will be hosting a workshop on adding strategies that pertain to our last numeracy unit of the year. It is a very informative session, and I hope many of you will be able to attend.
First Grade invites all parents to our Writer's Cafe on Sunday May 8th. Our class will begin at 8:10. We will be showcasing student poetry as well as saying a special thank you to our Mother's for all their support in the year. Please check your child's green bag this week for an invitation.
On Wednesday, May 4th we will start our ABC Countdown to the end of the year. Each day will hold something special for the students as we approach our final day of first grade. A hard copy of the Countdown Calendar was sent home on Thursday, and you can also find a digital copy posted below.
Lastly, 1F will have its last round of MAP testing this week. Our class was one of two first grade classes randomly selected to pilot the MAP test this year. The data will not be used to judge student performance and will not affect their report card marks in anyway. If you have any questions please feel free to contact myself or our Lower Elementary Administration for more details.
EARTH DAY CHART
Students participating in the Principal's Earth Day Challenge are encouraged to bring their chart back to class by May 5th so that we can recognize all our Earth Day Heroes.
Signing-Out Students Early
Parents who would like to sign out their child early are asked to sign their child out at the office as well as get a gate pass first. The parent is then asked to present the pass to the teacher which allows the student to then be excused early from class. Students who leave early during a school day must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who has received a gate pass from the ES office. No student is permitted to leave school grounds before 2:55 p.m. unless they have a pass in hand. The school nurse may also issue a gate pass to the parent and will inform the ES Office that the student has been sent home for the day.
