Our Pets

Our theme for the next two weeks is pets. We will focus on a variety of pets and what we can do to care for them. We will discuss places like the Humane Society that help animals. To further show how we can help our pets we will have a supply donation drive for the Hamilton County Humane Society during the two weeks. Attached to the e-mail you will find a wish list from the Humane Society. If you would like to donate please send the items to school with your child. Thank you!
Of course we want to hear about the pets you have at your home. Please send a picture of the pets in your home to school so that the children can share and talk about their pets. We're looking forward to an animal-friendly time!

Weekly Skills

During the two weeks we will work on a variety of preschool skills. These skills are modified to make sure they are appropriate for the variety of ages we have in our class. Below is a list of some of the skills we will work on during our theme of pets.
  • Vocabulary-cat, dog, bird, rabbit, fish, turtle
  • Number Concepts-half, whole, more , less
  • Estimation
  • Letters -Yy and Zz
  • Letter Sounds
  • Language Expansion-describing pets and how we care for them.
  • Cutting
  • Following 1-2 step directions embedded with concepts.
  • Working with others toward a common purpose.
  • Verbally interact with others during classroom activities.
  • Organizing ourselves to prepare for classroom tasks.

Home Activities

As we work on a variety of skills during the next two weeks we look for further reinforcement of skills at home. This continued encouragement of concepts will increase understanding and application of those skills. Below are activities to do at home.
  • Use the attached handouts in the e-mail to further reinforce skills worked on throughout the two weeks.
  • Give your pet some extra attention. Pet them a little longer, toss a ball with them to get them a little more exercise or give them a special treat when you feed them, like a dog biscuit or a cat treat.
  • If you have a dog, take them on a walk. Maybe to some of their favorite spots for extra fun.
  • Go to the library and pick out books on pets.
  • Check out Tumble Books. If you belong to the public library you can utilize this program. Go to the Hamilton East Public Library website. On the left hand side as you scroll down you will see downloadable media. Click on this and then scroll down again and click on Tumble Books. You can search for different books to read to your child or they can be read to your child.
  • If you don't have a pet at your home ask a neighbor that you know if you could do something kind for their pet.
