LANGUAGE ARTS
- Building our sight word vocabulary- new words this week: be, down, make, from, all
- Retelling familiar stories and identifying characters, setting, and major events in a story
- Blending letters to make CVC words
- Changing the initial consonant to make new words
- Working on putting uppercase letters at the beginning of a sentence and naming end punctuation.
- Features of non-fiction text
- Finding information in non-fiction text about penguins
- Learning to write persuasive stories
- Fluently reading and understanding books ON grade level
- Working independently in Daily Five centers to become better readers, writers, and spellers

Our class was the Kindergarten Mega Minute Winners for the 2nd Nine Weeks!!! We read 23,612 minutes. Congratulations to all my students that were recognized at our celebration!! I am so PROUD of you! 17 students in our class read and recorded their minutes online. YOU ROCK!!

Math
- Counting objects one to one and telling how many
- Comparing if a group has greater than, less than, or equal to another group
- Comparing two written numerals
- Decomposing and composing numbers from 11-19
Using math tools- number line, rekenrek, and tens frame to build numbers
Daily calendar math
- Counting by tens, fives, and ones to 100
- Recognizing coins; penny, nickel, dime, and quarter and knowing their values
- Using "number talks" to explain our math thinking
- Using the "Notice and Wonder" strategy to help us with problem solving
SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES
We are working on:

REMINDERS
- The Sweetheart Luncheon for our class on Monday, February 9th from 10:45- 11:10 a.m. We look forward to seeing you!
- Our valentine exchange and special centers will be on Friday, February 13th. Students are to bring in a container for their valentines AND their valentines on Friday the 13th.
- There will be no school for students on Monday, February 16th. We will have an eClass Practice activity for students on that day. Please look for information soon!
- Our Relay for Life team will be selling BEADS on Tuesday, February 17th & Wednesday, February 18th. Please help support this important cause; small beads 2/ $1.00, regular beads $1.00, and large beads $2.00.
- Parent/ Teacher conferences will be on February 25th & 26th. I am SO excited to share your child's progress with you!
- Personal safety lessons are being taught through use of the “Think First & Stay Safe” program beginning in February and will be completed by the beginning of March. Once again, this program enables students to take an active and necessary role in protecting themselves from abuse and exploitation. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Attention Everyone!
Next week, we will have our next Craig Cares activity to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This organization is set up to help children who have cancer, and we want to raise some money to support a cure. Beginning on Monday, Student Council will be selling paper picture frames for $1, and we will hang pictures of you with your friends and family to go on our Unity Wall!. This is a fun way to show off your friends and family while also uniting for the cause of curing cancer. See you next week!
