A Peek At Our Week

Language Arts

RF1.3, RF1.4, RL1.1, RL1.2, RL1.3, RL1.5, RL1.6, W1.2, W1.5, W1.6, W1.8, L1.1, L1.2, and L1.4

We will learn the spellings for long o (ow), ou and kn. We will read “Beaver’s Green Treat” and “Little Rabbit’s Tale” in our hardback reader. Our reading strategy this week will focus on cause and effect.We will also talk about the structure of a story (plot, characters, setting, problem/solution). This month we will focus on nonfiction books and clarifying. We will review visualizing (making mental images), making predictions, and making connections. Our vocabulary words are deserve, usually, peaceful, variety, incredible, and typical. We will learn about adjectives. In Writer’s Workshop we will write informational books.

Please help your child learn Dolch sight word lists 3 and 4. Please email me when your child is ready to be tested.

Math

MD1, MD2, NBT1, NBT.2a, NBT. 2b, NBT.2c, NBT.3, NBT.4, , OA1, OA2, OA3, OA5, OA6, OA7, We will learn to measure length. We will learn numbers to 80. We will work on learning the word and the number ( sixteen/16) as well as making 10’s and ones (10 + 6 =16). We will review the addition strategy making 10’s. We will do some estimating and number talks. We will solve word problems. We will take math fluency quizzes in addition.

Science/Social Studies

We will learn about polar animals and their habitats. Each student will work in pairs to research a polar animal.
Lunch Reservations

Our lunch time is 11:50 - 12:20.

Each student is allowed 6 parent excuses per year (this is a change from years past). Parent excuses can be a hand written note or you may email the excuse to your child’s teacher and copy the excuse to: PPattendance@trussvillecityschools.com.


An ORIGINAL doctor’s excuse may be turned in from the parent by the student. Doctor’s excuses may be faxed to 205-228-3201 ONLY by the doctor’s office. We can NOT accept a faxed doctor’s excuse from a parent.


All excuses MUST be turned in within 3 days of the absence.
