SACRED HEART NEWSLETTERS
In keeping with our Eco initiatives and the direction from CDSBEO, we are moving away from paper copies of our newsletters to electronic versions. We are sending home this newsletter in paper form; however, future newsletters will be emailed to our families through School Messenger, and as always, all newsletters are available on our Sacred Heart website at https://sacredheartlanark.cdsbeo.on.ca.
Please feel welcome to call our school administrator, Irene Larocque, to confirm your current email address. Should you continue to require paper copies of our newsletter, please also let Irene know.
We thank you for supporting our Eco initiatives!
Anaphylaxis
It is of critical importance that you DO NOT send any products containing PEANUTS or NUTS to school for snacks or lunches. Please do not send WOW Butter to school. Carefully check the packages of ALL snacks before sending them to school, especially items like bulk granola bars. If you are sending in bought or homemade treats for special occasions, please send in a list of ingredients or communicate with your child’s teacher beforehand to discuss the ingredients. A creative alternative to treats might be to donate a book to your child’s classroom. We very much appreciate your attention to this critically important matter.
A list of sample peanut-free snacks and lunches is attached!
ATHLETICS
Our Running Club has been practicing for the upcoming Cross Country meet which will be held at Conlon Farm in Perth on Thursday, October 24th. Permissions forms will be coming home shortly for Grade 3 - 8 participants.

ECO Team
We are thrilled to announce that our Sacred Heart ECO team recently won PLATINUM status for our recycling program! Our ECO Team is continuing with our recycling initiatives.
The Sacred Heart ECO team has joined forces with Staples and Clover Environmental Solutions in a program offered to all schools across Canada to recycle ink and toner cartridges. Each month, hundreds of tons of empty ink and toner cartridges are kept out of landfills. Help keep those items from entering our landfills by recycling them. Send in any empty ink and toner cartridges with your children and the items will be placed in our ink or toner recycling bin. Returned ink and toner cartridges are either remanufactured into new ink or toner cartridges or recycled into products including office trays, pens and paper holders.
There is also a bin for used writing instruments. Together with Staples and Newell Rubbermaid the ECO Team is recycling writing instruments such as:
1.Pens and pen caps;
2. Mechanical pencils;
3. Markers and marker caps;
4. Highlighters and highlighter caps;
5. Permanent markers and permanent marker caps;
6. Plastic glue sticks.
These used writing tools will be made into items such as park benches and waste bins by TerraCycle Canada.
The ECO Team is also collecting used batteries. Along with Staples and Call2Recycle, the ECO Team is collecting batteries. Accepted batteries are taken to recycling facilities to be broken down into separate metals which can be used in new products such as new batteries, stainless steel alloy and cement additive.
Thank you for your continued support! Together we can make a difference ♻
FROG
Halloween!
We are encouraging families to please donate $2.00 per family toward our Board’s Toonies for Tuition fundraiser. The Canadian Catholic School Trustees' Association (CCSTA) Charitable foundation (Toonies for Tuition) provides tuition assistance to Catholic students in provinces that have limited or no public funding for Catholic schools. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile initiative!
Although we sincerely appreciate all of the kind and thoughtful gestures from our school families, in keeping with our Anaphylaxis Policy and our commitment to student safety, please speak with your child's teacher first before sending in any treats. An alternative donation (veggies, fruit, cheese, a seasonal book for your child’s class), is always welcome – Thank you!
