Mariner Update Parent Edition
Volume 12 Issue 24
Message to families
Mariner Family,
As we continue to stay the course through the 2022-2023 school year, I want to thank all of our parents for the input, the parking lot safety input, the extra time spent reading with your student, and communicating with our teachers, and attending parent meetings and special events. Raising your student, your child, is an amazing experience, and an enormous responsibility. Before you know it, your children will be all grown up and ready to take on the world. It goes by quickly, in a blink of an eye. Find the time to ask your children three careers that they might want to have when they grow up. Take them to the public library and check out books about those careers/dreams that they are thinking about. Take family field trips with them to visit people who are currently in the career field that they are thinking about. If your child wants to be a pilot, take them to visit a pilot. If they want to become a nurse, take them to visit a nurse. A key question to ask a professional is how they became a nurse or a pilot. Not all nurses took the same type of path to become a nurse. In your research you might find a faster path, or a less expensive path to follow, in order to become qualified in a given field. Ask your child that simple question from time to time and you will find that some of their answers will stay the same and some might change. If they have some new dreams that they are thinking about, get back in the car, head to the public library and check out some more books that are related to the career that they are interested in. Visit people who are currently in that profession/career and develop a correspondence with them. Ask questions, maybe job shadow them. The universe belongs to you and your child. Have the consistent conversation with your child, your children, and develop the path for them to learn more and continue learning together as a family. Learning is fun and learning together is something that you and your child will never forget. Find the time.
Parking Lot Safety:
Thank you for your input regarding parking lot safety. Mr. Ramos is an addition to our staff, he is our Campus Supervisor, and he will assist with front parking lot safety before and after school. He will also remind parents of the parking lot rules that are in place to keep all children and adults safe. The lane closest to the curb is the only lane that students should exit and/or enter their family vehicle. The second lane is there to access the handicapped parking and to drive into the main parking area and park in a slot.
School Safety - Periodic Backpack Checks:
Thank you for your input at recent parent meetings regarding backpack checks. The scheduled, random backpack checks were a request from IH parents and we have been conducting them throughout the school year. Feedback from parents at Coffee with the Principal meeting and ELAC meeting and parents who attended the African American Alliance Committee meeting, is consistent. Parents agree that the random backpack checks are an appropriate and safe strategy to continue implementing and that our students are feeling comfortable and safe as they get used to the process, knowing that it is in place to keep our students safe each day at school.

Students thrive on routine. They love knowing what’s coming and being able to participate smoothly in it. When they know exactly what they need to do each time, there will be less time lost in explaining directions and they will feel confident in knowing what they need to be doing. Instruction will be efficient, and student engagement will be up. You can have routines in the process of being called back, you can follow routines by completing the same warm-up activity each time, or follow the same lesson structure
