Introduction
Hello. Our names are Kyle and Nevin and we are going to be making a series of portfolio's that will be describing each of the time periods we are studying. The portfolio's are all going to be talking about the leaders and/or important people of the time period we are studying.
Continuity and Change
At this time there was a lot of change in the way country's viewed themselves and also the way warfare was. Country's now had the idea that they were better than every other country, therefore every country would compete against each other to be the best. The warfare also changed, the invention of the machine gun made combat very dangerous. Other inventions that resulted from the machine gun were the tank, and uboats. At this time another big step in warfare was gas. Using gas to get enemies out of trenches and bunkers.
WWI
WWI started in 1914 because of many factors, but there was one factor that was the "spark". In 1914 the Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated. This started a huge fight because at this time every country set up an alliance with each other. This made one country attack another country because they were attacking the country that they were in an alliance with and it was just a big mess. Thus starting WWI.
Woodrow Wilson - US
Thomas Woodrow Wilson was born on December 28, 1856.In 1910, Woodrow Wilson was elected governor of New Jersey. In 1912, the Democrats nominated Wilson for president. At the age of 56, Woodrow Wilson was sworn into office in March 1913. He was the last American president to travel to his inauguration ceremony in a horse-drawn carriage. He was the last American president to travel to his inauguration ceremony in a horse-drawn carriage. Although the president had advocated for peace during the initial years of the war, in early 1917 German submarines launched unrestricted submarine attacks against U.S. merchant ships. On April 2, 1917, Wilson asked Congress to declare war on Germany, stating, “The world must be made safe for democracy.”
William II - Germany
son of William I the Conqueror and king of England from 1087 to 1100. they conspired to overthrow him in favour of Robert. Meanwhile, Rufus was engaged in military operations in Scotland, Wales, and particularly in Normandy. Thereafter, Rufus maintained the Scottish kings as vassals, and in 1097 he subjugated Wales. In 1100 Rufus was shot in the back with an arrow and killed while hunting in the New Forest in Hampshire.
Nicholas II - Russia
Nicholas II was born on May 6, 1868. Nicholas II was born on May 6, 1868. Nicholas II inherited the Russian throne when his father died of kidney disease at the age of 49 on October 20, 1894. On January 5, 1905, Father George Gapon led a sizable but peaceful demonstration of workers in St. Petersburg.Nicholas II spent much of late 1915 through August 1917 away from Tsarskoe Selo in Saint Petersburg.
