ENERGY
This week I was reminded of the importance of choosing a great attitude each day, and taking your energy and making it contagious for those around you, especially your students. During my daily social media feed update, I came across the story of educator, Barry White Jr., and his morning personalized handshakes with each student. Barry has now become a viral sensation, as his story has been featured in all social media platforms, and by ABC news. What struck me was not his energy, but the energy that is on each students face as they get that personal moment with their teacher each morning. What I instantly thought of was our students, and more specifically, our students who go throughout their day without speaking or engaging with anyone. Many times we label these students as quiet, introverts, and many times we feel they chose to stay quiet and isolated so we should not enter their space. What Mr. White accomplishes each morning, is to engage and invade that space in a positive way that each students allows and enjoys. In this line of students is a quiet, introvert who loves to begin their day acknowledge of their existence by a caring adult. Ask yourself this question, "How many students come through our doors each morning ignored and dismissed by their environment?" Mr. White teaches all of us a valuable lesson, it's not about us, it's about them. If we acknowledge them, we connect, we care, and we love. This educator is "knocking down the walls" immediately each morning. Thank you Mr. White!
