Central Avenue Elementary
Tonya Middling - Principal
Kristin Hillius - Assistant Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
We have really enjoyed having our Kindergarten students back at school. They have done a wonderful job getting acclimated from remote to in-person learning and are quickly learning the routines, expectations, and safety measures we have in place.
As we continue to move forward with the return of students, first and second grade families will begin seeing an email with COVID-19 health screening questions. When you receive this email, please start practicing. This will be required to be completed by 8:30 every morning that your child attends in person. If you have not received this email by Wednesday, please call our office to be sure we have the most up-to-date email address on record.
Our survey for grades 3-5 has gone out to ask if you prefer your child to continue learning remotely, or if you prefer to have them come in person. Once we receive your results, we will begin making a plan for the next phase.
Currently, the schedule is for grades 1-2 to return on February 8th and for grades 3-5 to return on February 22nd.
We look forward to seeing your student in the building, or continuing in remote learning, in February!
It's great to be a Wildcat!
~Mrs. Middling

School Health Check in
Just a reminder that you need to complete a health screening questionnaire EVERY morning. This survey will come to your email, but you can also set it up to be sent as a text to your phone, for easy completion. If you have not filled out the form, your child will not be allowed to enter class until we have heard from you to answer questions, and have your child's temperature taken. PLEASE do your part before school, so that your child can go to class when they arrive.
- Students will be required to wear a mask on the bus, in the halls, in class, and at recess. Please start practicing now if your child is not comfortable wearing a mask for a length of time.
- Students will wash hands and use hand sanitizer throughout the day.
- Students will sit 6 feet apart in the classroom.
If your child has been exposed to COVID, or if they are showing symptoms of illness, you may not send them to school until they have been quarantined and symptom free for 14 days. Teachers will provide work for students during this time. We are counting on everyone to keep Central Avenue safe for all students and staff.
Click here for more information about In-Person Learning from the district, Thank you!
Support Professionals Appreciation Week
This week we celebrate those certificated staff professionals who support students outside of the classroom! Thank you to our counselor Emelie Nelson, Psychologist Donna Rogers, Speech and Language Pathologists Serena Michelson and Molly Alldredge, Occupational Therapist Susi Esson and Physical Therapist Lori Odagiri! Our Central Avenue community is so fortunate to have all of our support specialists supporting our students! Special Thanks & Appreciation to each one of them!!
Note From Librarian Mrs. Rooney
Greetings from the Central Avenue Library! Students at Central Avenue can continue to check out books from the CA Library! Don’t know how? Watch this CA Library Book checkout
Want to find books by AR level? Here is how! Destiny search by AR level
After placing books on Hold, they will be ready the next school day for pick up (example: If you put books on hold on Monday, they will be ready on Tuesday). If you are a remote student, pick up is at the front door (ring the doorbell) from 11:45-12:45 and 3:00-3:30. If you are in school, at CA, your books will be delivered to your teacher. Please remember, previous books checked out must be returned.
Questions? Send Mrs. Rooney a message in Canvas or email at krooney@fpschools.org
Happy Reading
Having you been missing Library and Music Canvas conferences?
That’s because the district is working to bring students back into the building and specialist are needed in other positions. Mrs. Rooney will be teaching a 1st grade class remotely. And Mr. Shintaku is going to be a guest teacher. Details and timelines prevented us from saying goodbye but we left messages for you on our Canvas page. We miss seeing you all. Keep smiling, reading, and keep a song in your heart.
Would you like to know when your student’s bus is going to be late or what is happening?
Once you know your child's route, you should consider signing up for bus route notifications using 'Bus Bulletin'. Bus Bulletin will send text messages to your cell phone with real-time updates on your child's route. For example, if your child's route is running late, Bus Bulletin will let you know.
To sign up to use Bus Bulletin, follow these steps:
- Log into the website http://busbulletin.com/parents/
- Look to the right side of the screen. Click on 'Sign In'
- Click on 'Register Here' and answer the simple prompts providing your name, email address, a password, and select Franklin Pierce Schools.
- Enter the code on the screen, accept the rules of use
- Click submit
- Select the route which is written in a code - the first two numbers are the ROUTE NUMBER, and the letters are the SCHOOL ABBREVIATION
- Preschool: HDS for Head Start and ELC
- Primary: BD, CA, CH, CO, ELM, HA, JS, MD
- Secondary: FMS, FPHS, KMS, WHS, GATES
- Example: 01CA is route 01, Central Avenue Elementary

IMPORTANT: Annual Student Information Update Needed For Every Student
A primary guardian needs to log on to Family Access in Skyward and complete the Annual Student Information update for your student. There are several forms that need to be completed every year, so even if you don't have any changes you must log on and complete the updates. It only takes a few minutes of your time. Please see examples below of what to look for in Skyward.
Make sure to click SUBMIT to complete the updates when you are done!
