Math Play Every Day
The Number Game
Why we love this game:
It can be played anywhere, at any time! It is great for road trips, those “I’m bored” moments or a spontaneous scavenger hunt! Most of all, it brings fun to counting.
How to play:
Simple! Look for things to count.
Use the number game printable, or write out the numbers 1-20. Children then scan their environment for where they see “one of...two of...three of something” out through the number 20. Whoever completes their number sheet first is the winner.
Advanced Number Game (best for ages 7 and above):

Annie’s joyful exuberance and her family’s whole-hearted support leave no doubt that her dream is within her grasp. This delightful story - with backmatter about women astronauts - encourages young listeners to pursue their dreams and reach for the stars.
Career Day is approaching, and Annie can’t wait to show her family what she’s planning to be when she grows up. But, she must keep it a secret until Friday! So curious family members each ask Annie for a clue. Convinced that she’ll be a news reporter like he once was, Grandpop gives her his old camera and notebook to use for her presentation. Grandma is sure Annie wants to be a champion baker like her, so she offers a mixing bowl and oven mitts to Annie. Hopeful she'll become the mountain climber he aspired to be, Dad gives Annie an old backpack. Mom presents Annie with a pair of high-top sneakers to pursue Mom's favorite sport in high school - basketball.
Grateful for each gift, Annie cleverly finds a way to use them all to create her Career Day costume. When the big day arrives, Annie finally reveals her out-of-this-world dream to everyone.
Social Emotional Activities
Life can be stressful, but incorporating acts of kindness into your daily life can not only help others, it can provide a healthy distraction from your own challenges, focus you on gratitude and boost your mood. This list gives you several options for simple acts of kindness that you can do together with loved ones.
- Give a family member a compliment. Kind words go a long way!
- Pick up trash in your neighborhood. This one does require you to leave the house, but you don’t have to go far to throw away litter around your neighborhood.
- Offer to do your neighbor’s yardwork. While you are cutting your grass, offer to do your neighbor’s to save them the hassle.
- Do a chore that is normally your spouse, child or roommate’s responsibility. Everyone could use a little break, and if you’re lucky maybe they’ll return the favor some time.
- Leave positive sticky notes around the house. Write down words of encouragement and post them around the house for you or your family members to find.
- Send virtual letters to military personnel or hospital patients. Look online for ways to send virtual mail to those overseas or in hospitals to brighten their day.
- Practice a new hobby. If you’re interested in learning a new craft with some of your free time, you could watch YouTube “how to” videos (anything from basic sewing to simple paper crafts with items around your home) and send your creations out to those who would appreciate them.
