Elkton Elementary School Memo
March 1, 2021
A Note from Mrs. Palmer
Dear EES Families,
The month of February is behind us and we are looking forward to March....and SPRING. Let's hope Mother Nature cooperates and brings us sunshine and warmth.
March is a conflicted month. It arrives like a lion and goes out like a lamb (or vice versa). The ancient Britons referred to it as hyld-monath- loud and stormy. In Ancient Rome, March was called Martius, in honor of the Roman God of War; it was considered a good time of the year to start a battle. While March welcomes the Spring Equinox int he northern hemisphere, it also commemorates the Great Blizzards of 1888 and 1993. So we shall see what March 2021 bring us.
Next week we will conduct Pre-K Screenings and Kindergarten registration for the 2021-2022 school year. Read below for more details.
READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK- March 1-5. EES will celebrate Dr. Seuss and reading by having dress up days at school.
Reminders:
- Students in grades 2-5 do have assignments to complete on the days they are not in school. I encourage each parent/guardian to set aside a time during the day for their child to complete these assignments.
- HLA students must participate in the live sessions and/or assigned sessions by their teacher. Communicate with the teacher if you child can't participate. Assignments must be completed the day they are assigned. If an extension is needed, contact your child's teacher.
- Pre-K Screening Interviews- March 9-10. If you know of any family with a child who will be 4 by Sept. 30, 2021, they are elgibile to be screened. Keep in mind it is an application process. Contact EES at 298-1511.
I wish you well...
Mrs. Palmer

Upcoming Pre-K and Kindergarten Registration for the 2021-2022 school year.
Kindergarten registration for the 2021-2022 school year will be online again. Go to www.rcps.net and look for the registration button. This opens up March 8th. Kindergarten is for students who will be 5 years age by September 30, 2021. If you are not sure if your child is of age, contact EES at 298-1511.
This year, our school will offer an email address that you can upload and send all paperwork through. You do not have to come into the building if you do the online registration and upload all paperwork. For those that rather bring the paperwork to school, we will be open March 11, 2021 10:00-7:00 to accept paperwork. If you need help registering your child, call the school to set up an appointment. A mask must be worn to enter the school building.
Elkton Community Girls on the Run
Inspire Award- Nominate a teacher
child by nominating him/her for the Inspire Award. This award
aims to recognize teachers who go above and beyond in the
classroom. Parents, students, pre-service teachers, or classroom
volunteers may submit nominations.
The Inspire Award allows the School Board and community to
regularly and publicly celebrate the impact that RCPS teachers make
each day, whether on a particular child or class, or by encouraging a
future teacher.
A teacher may be recognized once during a school year and
submissions must be received ten days prior to a board meeting.
The person making the nomination will be invited to share his/her
nomination essay of up to 200 words with the school board, and will
make the presentation of a certificate to the honored teacher.
The nomination form can be found on the RCPS website under “Parents”.
