STEM Night Success

This past Wednesday evening, we had a few hundred students and parents fill the schoolhouse with creativity and fun! Students brought several homemade games for our arcade, which made for a very entertaining experience for all. Families also had the opportunity to participate in the Cardboard Challenge, play games, and engage in numerous other activities. Some photos which show items from our "arcade" are displayed below.

We are thankful to Mrs. Benson and the BME staff for facilitating such a powerful experience. Most importantly, we are grateful for the creativity of our students that shared their projects and experiences with us.

Thank you PTO!

BME PTO is THE BEST!

On this cold winter day, we were treated with soup, salad, breadsticks, cookies, and iced tea. Thank you for being so generous! We are truly grateful for you.

Welcome Music Student Teacher, Allison Barker

Boone Meadow Families,

Hello! I’m so excited to be student teaching in the music room here at Boone Meadow. I am currently completing my senior at Indiana State University, majoring in music education with a concentration in voice. Mr. Doublestein, the staff and the students have already made me feel so welcomed here, and I’ll be very sad to leave once my eight week placement is over in early March!

Working with kids, I get asked so many questions about myself each day, so here are some you might have yourself!

Q. “Where are you from?”

A: I grew up in Danville. Many people don’t know where that is unless they mention it’s the home to the one and only Mayberry Café, which I worked at for five years!
Q: “What do you do for fun?”

A: I am such a book worm! You can almost always catch me with a Stephen King book in my bag! I also really enjoy exercising, spending time with my family, and I also love singing and performing in theatre! I currently work at the Biz Academy of Music and Theatre in Avon, where I teach private voice lessons.

Q: “What is your favorite thing you’ve done?”

A: This past summer, I traveled to Budapest, Hungary to study music education for two weeks! It was an incredible experience, and I love being able to share the knowledge I gained from it to all of my students.

I’m so happy to be welcomed into such a supportive community and school! It’s been such a wonderful time already sharing my love of music to these bright young minds!

“If music be the food of love, play on!”

Valentine's Day Information

We look forward to celebrating Valentine's Day with our students at their classroom parties on Thursday, February 14th. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to emphasize the Lifelines of friendship and kindness with all of our students.

As you are preparing Valentine cards to share with classmates, please prepare cards void of candy. Due to many students with food sensitivities and allergies, we will be unable to distribute candy. We appreciate your cooperation as our main goal is to keep everyone safe.

If you elect to purchase cards that have contain something extra attached to them, please ensure they are inedible. This could include pencils, erasers, stickers, etc. Thank you for ensuring that all students can have a safe and fun celebration.

Volunteers and Visitor Background Checks

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VOLUNTEERS

We value partnerships with our families and welcome parents and guardians to serve as volunteers in our schools. Each ZCS building offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities.

Examples include:

  • Volunteer Coaches
  • Classroom Helpers (PTO parties/room parents)
  • Library Helpers
  • After Prom Workers

Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee* for the full background check which will expire after 5 years. The link to apply for the full background check can be accessed on the Volunteers/BRAVO link on the ZCS main webpage. For more information, contact the Volunteer/BRAVO Coordinator.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VISITORS

During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.

Examples Include:

  • Lunch Guests
  • Classroom Guest Speakers
  • Classroom Special Events (Grandparent Day/Famous Hoosiers/etc.)

We ask that all visitors schedule an appointment to meet with teachers, counselors, administrators and all other staff members so that we may best serve everyone. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.

*ZCS thanks all volunteers for generous support of our youth and schools. Thank you, too, for supporting assurance of student and staff safety by completing and paying for a volunteer background check.
