SHOUT-OUTS!


Mrs. Snyder did an outstanding job organizing and running this year's Fall Book Fair. Please join me in thanking her and the many volunteers for making it a success. We will all benefit as we enjoy reading many new books purchased with the profits generated from the Book Fair. Keep calm and read on!

Online Parent-Teacher Conference Sign-up - this school year, you will be using Family Access to sign-up for your child's Parent-Teacher Conference. All instructions will be in the next newsletter.

GET READY - Color Splash and Dash Run 2015 - October 9th 5:30 - 7:00PM

WILDCAT FAMILIES - Continue selling your raffle tickets. See Mrs. Pengelly in the main office to get more tickets. We thank you in advance, as this is our largest fundraiser and if every student sells a minimum of 10 tickets, we will reach our goal.


On Friday, October 9, the Mary Helen Guest family will lace up their running shoes, dress in a white t-shirt, and celebrate an evening of healthy families exercising together! Our second annual Color Splash and Dash Run.

Color Splash & Dash Family Run 2015

The MH Guest PTA is proud to announce our 2015-2016 fundraising effort! The PTA sponsors many great events for student enrichment and family fun. Our PTA funds reading programs, classroom technology, educational assemblies and more. This year the PTA has many awesome events planned, including a family dance, G.R.A.N.D., the annual variety show and our biggest fundraiser, The Team Guest Raffle and Color Splash & Dash. The more funds we raise, the more amazing things we can provide for our children and our school.

Attached to this letter you will find ten raffle tickets. We are hoping that every student will sell at least ten tickets to family and friends over the course of the next few weeks. Cash prizes will be drawn at our Color Splash & Dash.

Team Guest Raffle Tickets:

$5.00 per ticket or 5 Tickets for $20.00

Each ticket should be sold for $5.00.

If one person would like to purchase a “five-pack” of tickets, the cost is $20.00

Cash or checks accepted. Please make checks out to Mary Helen Guest PTA.

Winning Values for the Raffle: Our Goal $12,000

1st Place $500.00 Per Child $40

2nd Place $250.00 Per Family (more than 1 child) $60

3rd Place $150.00

Rules and Regulations:

· The person purchasing the ticket(s) must be 18 years or older. Please ensure that the person’s name on the tickets is at least 18 years or older.

· Please do not allow your child to go door-to-door or to any location to sell tickets by him/herself. An adult should always accompany each student. The safety and well being of our children is our first and foremost concern! MH Guest families are encouraged to sell tickets to friends, family and co-workers.

Student Incentives:

Yes! We are raising money for our students – with an ultimate goal that all children feel engaged and rewarded for their hard work and efforts. We want every student to be a part of this exciting fundraiser.

The top 5 students who raise the most money will receive:

4 passes for bowling at Wonderland Lanes

Plus, their choice of 1 option below:

Lunch with the Principal

Host for the day on our Morning Announcements

Every Student will be recognized!

Each student who raises $40.00 or more will:

Have his/her name posted on a bulletin board and receive a certificate of appreciation.

Classroom with the most dollars raised will receive a gift certificate for the fall book fair.

All classrooms with 100% participation will receive popsicles at block recess time.

How to turn in your tickets

Please send your ticket stubs and money to school on any of the three turn-in dates, in a Ziploc bag or envelope, with the attached turn-in form completely filled out. You may turn tickets in as you sell them on any of the following dates. THE STATE REQUIRES ALL UNUSED TICKETS TO BE TURNED IN! PLEASE RETURN ALL TICKETS ON THE FINAL TURN IN DATE!

Color Splash & Dash:

To celebrate our fundraiser and promote exercise and healthy living, we will be hosting our second annual Color Splash & Dash on Friday, October 9, 2015. The Team Guest Raffle drawing will be held at the end of the run.This is a fun-filled Color Run for the entire family. The run, which is sponsored by PTA, will be held at MH Guest, beginning at 5:30pm. If you are not familiar with this type of run, participants will run, walk or stroll around the course while being “splashed” with washable powder paints; a sure way to impress any elementary child!

Math Pentathlon REGISTRATION IS NOW!

If you are interested in seeing this program at MHG and would like to coach or team coach for any grade level, please contact the math club coordinator. Coaches should be identified as soon as possible to ensure adequate time for training. Critical need is in K, 1st, 4th & 5th grades.

CALLING FOR ALL EXEMPLARY TEACHERS! GET YOUR NOMINATION FORM

The Walled Lake Consolidated Schools are again participating in a program to honor exemplary teachers. We hope you will join us in an effort that will result in the selection of the TEACHER/EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR for the Walled Lake Consolidated School District at the elementary, middle school and high school levels. This honor will be bestowed at the January 7, 2016 school board meeting. All Nomination Forms are due by October 16, 2015. Please return completed forms to school, or to Mrs. Fiebke-Lang.


WHO MAY NOMINATE?

Any person in the community may nominate any teacher/educator in the district for this honor.

HOW TO SUBMIT A NOMINATION FORM

Email submissions to the nominee’s school are preferred. If using a hard copy, please deliver your Nomination Forms to the nominee’s school in an envelope marked clearly with “TEACHER/EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR”.


In the body of the email, there is a link for the Nomination Form and additional information for you to read. The main office also has hard copies for your convenience, or you can call 248-956-3300, and ask the secretary to send a Nomination Form home with your child.

  • School funding is based on our attendance for the fall and winter count days. Please make every effort to ensure your child’s attendance on these two important official student count dates:
    • Wednesday, October 7

NEW DISTRICT WEBSITE

  • The new Walled Lake Schools website uploaded Thursday, Oct. 1. The goal is to continue to make the District website the “go to” tool for our entire community. We are working to keep the site consistent. WLCSD.ORG

  • Work in Progress - At Guest Elementary, we will continue to add and tweak items on our website during the school year. Any feedback is appreciated. The new link is listed below.

Breakfast & Lunch

LUNCH - Meal Pricing Breakfast $1.25 & Lunch $2.50 per day. The first week of school, you will receive a menu with all other details, including Lunch A La Carte selections and breakfast choices.

    • The Guest SALAD BAR will be every TUESDAY beginning September 29th. The SALAD BAR takes the place of CHOICE #2.
    • Once their account is empty, students may only charge two additional lunches to their account. After they have charged the two extra lunches, students will be given a light lunch, which consists of cheese, crackers, fruit, and milk.
    • Free and reduced lunch/breakfast applications have to be completed every year and are due by October 7th. The names of students/families receiving free or reduced meals are kept confidential (even from me).
