Message from the Principal

Dear Carlton Families,

This week, Carlton students will be participating in the Hour of Code which is always during the Computer Science Education week. This is a worldwide event to spark interest in computer science and coding. Students in TK-5th grade will program mini robots in the Makerspace or do some programming on a coding app. Families are invited to enjoy some coding at home as well by trying a coding activity on the Hour of Code website.

On this Thursday, I look forward to seeing staff members and families at HSC's Basket Bingo from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the cafeteria and front lawn, under the twinkling lights. Bring your own picnic dinner and blankets. Families are sure to have fun playing bingo, entering raffles for themed baskets, and meeting other Carlton families.

Principal

    Independent Study for Extended Absences

Students should attend school on a daily basis during the school year. However, there are circumstances in which students need to miss school for an extended period of time. Independent Study is for students who plan to be away from school for a minimum of 5 days but no more than 14 days. The students will complete the assigned work and then turn it in when they return to school. Once the teachers check their work, then the students' absences will be excused. To request an Independent Study, fill out this Independent Study Request form. You will need to notify the office team and teacher at least two weeks in advance in order to process your request.

2022 Carlton Second Harvest of Silicon Valley Donation Drive

Carlton's Student Council is asking families to support our donation drive for Second Harvest of Silicon Valley. The grade level that collects the most donations will earn a special reward. But the most important reward is knowing that people in our community will have the food they need. Below are the donation links for each grade level. The donation drive will run from November 28th to December 15th (1:00 pm deadline). We will announce the winning grade level on the intercom at the end of the day on Friday, December 16th. Our school has raised $823 so far! Thank you for your support!

Girls on The Run at Carlton

Girls on the Run is a social-emotional program for girls in 3rd-5th grade that teaches critical life skills, such as developing healthy friendships, managing emotions, standing up for yourself and others, how to set goals, and make intentional decisions. This program will be offered at Carlton from February 27 to May 13 which will conclude with participation in a 5k race. If you would like to register your 3rd-5th grade child, go to https://www.gotrsv.org/programs. Practices will be on Wednesday immediately after school until 2:30 and Friday immediately after school until 4pm.

Do you know someone who would like to make a difference as a coach, along with other Carlton parents this spring? One more coach is needed for our site. If you would like more information there is a virtual information night on December 14th at 6:30pm. At the virtual information night, you can learn more about Girls on the Run and how the volunteer coaches make an impact on the lives of girls in our community. Click here to register today.

Support our School By Completing A School Meals Form

Completing a school meals/funding form is crucial to school funding. For every student who applies and qualifies for free or reduced-price meals, the school receives additional money from state and federal grants. This includes increased funding for school programs, technology, counseling services, and equipment for school kitchens.

Families who qualify for free or reduced may also be eligible for free or reduced cost internet, free or reduced cost childcare, and more! Your application helps your child and many others.

Applying online is the fastest way to submit an application form. All online applications are secure, private and processed within 24 hours.

    Project Cornerstone - December Book

This month the ABC volunteers will be reading the book The Day You Begin by Jaqueline Woodson. The author reminds the reader about the importance of diversity and inclusion in our schools by sharing the story of a child with a different cultural background. Here are the December slides and a link to the story.
