Activity Update for the Week of 1/4 - 1/8
REAL LEARNING FOR REAL LIFE STATEWIDE STEM LEARNING TOURS
A solid STEM education opens doors to opportunity for Washington’s students. But what’s going on in our communities to help or hinder students in STEM education? What resources do students need to succeed? What’s getting in their way? How can we work as a community to replicate the good things and overcome the barriers?
Educators, we want YOU to join STEM industry leaders, parents and students, legislators, and community leaders on either of our learning bus tours to look at how communities across the region and state are addressing STEM education challenges. This year, the Tour will take a special look at Common Core/Next Generation Science Standards to see how the standards impact delivery of STEM education. You may apply for either tour:
The Statewide Learning Tour will meet in Vancouver on March 16 and take a bus to STEM
education related sites in Vancouver, Yakima (March 17), and Spokane (March 18). Participants will make their own arrangements back home. After the Learning Tour, participants will be asked to participate in a few events to build on the momentum of the Tour. These events include community Town Halls, media outreach, and meetings with elected officials.

Digital Technology Expo
On Thursday, April 28th 2016 the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce will produce the “Digital Technology Expo and Luncheon” which will consist of five parts: a multi zone technology expo directed at business application, a lively demonstration stage, an education preview, a dynamic digital technology luncheon and, finally a “Technology Happy Hour!” This event will be unparalleled in our region and combines the strength of the City’s Innovation Partnership Zone (IPZ) in Digital Technology, WSU-Vancouver’s Creative Media & Digital Culture Program, the Columbia River Economic Development Council and a number of other community partners. This will be the premier venue for experiencing new technologies, fueling the creative fire of students and increasing the community’s general knowledge and application of digital technologies.
