Greetings from the Principal
Dear Riverview families,
Welcome back from Labor Day weekend! I am sure the extra day of rest will send students back to school this week with plenty of energy to participate in their educational endeavors. Students have been working hard on practicing their 3 RE's behavior expectations throughout the building since the start of school. Thank you to parents for reinforcing the importance of following classroom and common area expectations; we have seen great improvement since the start of the school year in areas such as the gym noise level during car loop and using good cafeteria manners!
Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for Sept. 23rd and 24th, so if you have not signed up yet, please contact your classroom teacher soon. This will be the first protected time for teachers to discuss student progress with parents, and quarterly progress reports are soon to follow.
Through a collaborative effort last year by parents, teachers, and administrators across the district, this year grade cards will take on a new look in USD 232 elementary schools. While student report cards are just one way teachers share learning results with parents, they are an important tool in the communication process between schools and families.
Beginning this year USD 232 will implement the agreed upon changes to the elementary report card. Expect to see the following used to report grades:
- Overall grades, for students in K-2nd grade, will be noted as 4, 3, 2, or 1.
- Overall grades, for students in 3-5th grade, will be noted as A, B, C, D, or F.
More information to come!
Make it a great week!

A Note From the Nurse...
...Guess who has the potential to return to school this fall? Head lice!
When checking your child’s head you are looking for nits—teardrop shaped white to gray in color dots on the hair shaft. Nits can easily be mistaken for dandruff or droplets of hair-spray, however, they are firmly attached to the hair shaft and cannot be readily moved or removed. Nits are eggs that hatch in a matter of days, thus continuing the cycle of infestation. Persistent scratching of the head, around the ears, or nape of the neck is a common symptom.
If you find lice or nits...
- treat your child, and follow the protocol for re-treatment. This includes taking care of linens, stuffed animals and clothing in your house.
- You can also notify parents of children that your child has been in contact with so they can check their children and treat if necessary. (Wouldn’t you want the parent of a friend to do the same thing for you?).
- Please notify your school nurse, as well. We do not share this information with anyone, but it helps to know if we need to be looking even more in a particular classroom for scratching heads.

Fun fact: Lice are not a sign of uncleanliness...they are actually more likely to attach to clean hair! Students reduce their risk of getting lice by wearing their hair in a pony tail and limiting sharing of hats, combs, hair accessories, etc.
