Holiday Greetings

As we conclude 2021, and break for the winter holiday, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all who help make Brookdale an amazing place to be. We are a community with many gifts and talents, which we share daily with one another and most important, with our students. From the classroom, to your living room and all points in-between, our collective efforts to raise the whole child are filled with passion, commitment and a willingness to make decisions that may be hard in the present, but will have a positive and lasting influence in the future for all.

Thank you for ALL you do each and every day for your children!

Warm regards,

Mrs. Holman

Moving Updates

The next few weeks are going to be extra busy as we prepare for the move.

Families should have received an email from the district letting you know of a change in scheduling. This decision didn't come lightly and we understand the additional strain it may put on families. However, it has become very clear that in order to make sure that we could meet the aggressive timeline for moving, two packing days are needed prior to Winder Break and two days tacked onto the end of break for unpacking and setting up classrooms. Teachers will provide Independent Learning for the 4 days - Thursday & Friday, Dec. 16 & 17 and Monday & Tuesday, Jan. 3 & 4.

Now, instead of sending laptops and t-shirts home on Tuesday, Dec. 14, teachers will be sending them home on Wednesday, Dec. 15. Please put both in a safe place. We are hoping that ALL students will wear their t-shirt on our first day in the new building - Wednesday, Jan. 5. Also, please send their laptop, charger and cover back on that day as well.

Letter below has lots of important information regarding the move to our new building.

FREE COVID 19 VACCINATIONS AND ADULT BOOSTERS ~ DECEMBER 17TH

Franklin Pierce Schools and Tacoma Pierce County Health Department are partnering to offer free COVID-19 vaccines for children ages 5-11 as well as adult boosters (Pfizer) at the Family Resource Center at 315 129th St S. The vaccine is not required for students, but will minimize the likelihood of needing to quarantine upon exposure. Click here to sign up for an appointment and to access the necessary documents for your children. Appointments are recommended but walk-ins will be served as time is available.

WINTER WEATHER - LOST & FOUND

It's December, and that means the weather forecast is getting colder! We do go out to recess every day so it is important that students have warm coats and shoes for outside. If your child is missing their coat, please have them check out lost and found! We have many student coats and hats just waiting to be claimed. All unclaimed clothing will be given to a charity during Winter Break. Please be sure your child's name is in their coat, so it can be returned if left on the playground.

Speaking of weather, it sounds like snow may be in our future. Please be sure to check our district website www.fpschools.org for news regarding late starts or snow days.

FREE DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENING

Children ages 3-5 who reside within the Franklin Pierce School District are eligible for free developmental screening. Hearing, vision, kindergarten readiness, speech and language, motor skills, and behavior are checked. Screenings take place regularly. See their web page here. To schedule an appointment, call the Early Learning Center Child Find hotline at 253-298-4658.

HEADSTART

If you have a pre-school age child in your household, he or she may be eligible for the Head Start or ECEAP preschools at the Dr. Frank Hewins Early Learning Center. To learn more about the Early Learning Center and to access an application, click here.

IMPORTANT SCHOOL REMINDERS

STUDENT EARLY DISMISSAL – If your child has an appointment and is leaving before the end of the school day, please make sure you send a note that morning letting the teacher and the office know. Also, please allow enough time for pick up. To preserve precious class time, we do not call students to the office until you have checked them out in person (remember your ID).

SCHEDULE CHANGES - The end of the day at Brookdale is very hectic. If you forgot to send a note in the morning (which is preferred) and need to call the school with a change to your child’s schedule, please do so before 3:15 p.m. After 3:15 the office is busy assisting students and parents and will not be able to answer your call or get a message to a student before they leave for the day. All end of the day schedule changes must be made through the office, not with the classroom teacher. Thank you!

UPDATE CONTACT INFORMATION - If any of your information has changed (address, contact info., email address, etc.) please contact the office right away. This year more than ever, it will be important to have the most current information. Also, let us know what your preferred method of contact is - phone, email, text. You can reach the office at 253.298.3100.
