Student Government Fundraiser during April 14 Friday Night Live:
As usual, students will receive a free token for one food or drink item. However, this will not include Italian Sodas. The Student Government will be selling those for $3/ea as a fundraiser.
Grizzly Tickets are handed out to students who are "caught" doing great things. Whether they are demonstrating kindness, respect, citizenship, or any number of awesome characteristics, being awarded a Grizzly Ticket will earn them one entry into our weekly drawing.
Weekly drawing winners get to spend the following week at the KING/QUEEN GRIZZLY lunch table. This table has the privilege of being called first to get their lunch trays and the first to be dismissed to their next class. Occasionally, King or Queen Grizzly will get to use the microphone to dismiss all the other tables, too! CONGRATULATIONS and enjoy your reign!!
*ALL Grizzly Tickets awarded since the start of the school year will be entered in a big prize drawing in May!

This week in ELA we watched “The Mighty” which was the movie version of Freak the Mighty. Students very much enjoyed seeing how “wrong” the movie got the book and we had some great discussions surrounding its plot. Next week, we’ll discuss how we put our ideas into writing, as well as introduce some persuasive writing on which one is better.
Students have also begun reading independently again, so you should see students reading for a minimum of 2 hours each week at home. The homework is 20 minutes each day. Please ask them about their books and how they’re liking them. Discussing reading is a great way to normalize reading and make it just a part of their world.
This week we started a new unit focused on how humans impact the environment. We are learning about causes, effects, and solutions regarding endangered species. We are working on annotating an informational text to aide comprehension and asking relevant questions about our topic.
Students will continue to work through the last week of our swim unit in PE class. They will need to bring their swimsuits and towels to class daily. If a student is unwell, or unable to participate in the pool, they may still earn credit for the day by completing the "dry-land training". Please email Mr. Bechtol with questions or concerns.
This week in GT, students are continuing to forge forward in their work on their individual enrichment projects, for those who have chosen to embark on them. If there is anything I can do to support your GT learner, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at kyle.deuling@kibsd.org!
