EXCELLENCE IN INSTRUCTION: PD Day - Sharpening our Tools in our Toolkits
Excellence in Instruction: Lesson Closure and DOL's - Week #3
Goal# 1: Increase overall student achievement by implementing a tightly aligned curriculum across all grade levels.
We will continue this week with the same focus as the past two weeks because it is so important to have a tight closure and to collect end of the lesson assessment data to ensure student mastery! We will continue to focus on alignment across the campus in the following area:
-Lesson Closure and DOL's
Every full lesson cycle should conclude with a summation of the important concepts taught and learned and a DOL activity to gather student mastery data. Please check out the strategies below to consider when planning your closure and DOL activity, as well as an article that highlights the importance of lesson closure and DOL's! I can not wait to share with pictures examples of evidence of effective lesson closure and DOL activities!
TEI 1.4 DATA USAGE: Analyzes and integrates student performance data to inform instructional decisions
Write the Exemplar: Set the bar for excellence
Script out the ideal written responses you want students to produce during independent practice
Align independent practice to the rigor of the upcoming interim assessment
TEI 2.3 DELIVERY: Explains instructional content clearly and cohesively
Independent Practice: Set up daily routines that build opportunities for students to practice independently
Implement and review a longer independent practice and/or a daily Exit Ticket (brief final mini-assessment aligned to your objective) to see how many students mastered the concept
Morning Meeting - Building Postiive Relationships One Meeting at a Time!
Below you will see graphs depicting how our campus is performing on morning meeting implementation. Great Job Guzick!!! To ensure we continue to grow in our two areas of need, greeting and morning message, here are a few reminders/examples of what you can do to enhance your greeting and/or morning message:
The GREETING portion of the meeting should include some sensory component. This means that they are singing, shaking hands, or include movement. The students should be greeting one another individually.
The MORNING MESSAGE helps students transition from the morning meeting back to instruction. Allude to the subject or theme you are studying with a greeting. Include the date and day of the week. Use this portion to reinforce or extend something taught in the classroom—a science theme, a read-aloud, a math topic, or a social issue. For example:
Good morning Mathletes,
Today is Wednesday, July 2, 1986. In math we are working on fractions. If one-fourth of our class wore pajamas to school, how many students would that be? Write your answer at the bottom of this chart.”
