Cougar Connection

Note from the Principal

It's hard to believe that we are already into the month of May! As the end of the school year nears, things begin to feel a little extra busy. We try our best to maintain structure and routine at school so that our students continue to thrive each day. If you're noticing that your child needs a little extra support right now, please feel free to connect with me, Mrs. Jangard or Ms. Adrienne.

If you're out and about, check out our student art work downtown! Our spots for the Children's Art Walk include: Soy House, Old Town Cafe and Third Planet. It looks great - and a special thanks to Val and the PTA for helping to organize the hanging of each piece of artwork.

With gratitude,

Ari Feeney

Title I Annual Promise

As a Title I school, we annually provide families with the a copy of the "Parent Compact." Typically, we talk about this at conferences in November. Essentially the Parent Compact is a promise between the student, the family and the school to partner together so that each child can learn and grow. Please click here to complete the Parent Compact - If you would like a hard copy of the document, please feel free to let me know. Thanks so much for helping us with this requirement.

Class Placement Feedback

In the next few weeks, your child's educational team will be working on class placement for the 2021-2022 school year. This process is complex and factors in many variables. Our goal is to place your child in a classroom that she/he can grow and develop. We also aim to build classes that are balanced with strengths, personalities, areas for growth, gender and need. All of our teachers our outstanding at meeting the needs of all children in a classroom and we also recognize that families sometimes like to share insights with our team. While we do not typically ask for feedback from families on specific teacher requests, I do welcome feedback regarding the learning environment that you feel your child would thrive best. Please feel free to email me at: Arionda.Feeney@bellinghamschools.org to share any information that you think might be helpful for our team to know as we build successful classes for next year. Thank you.

Kindergarten Registration!

It's that time of year to start registering your little ones for Kindergarten! Please help us spread the word so that we can get families registered as soon as possible.

Friendly Head Lice Reminder

One topic that we haven't talked a lot about this year is head lice. With Spring here, it's time for a friendly reminder! We've had a few cases in classrooms and would like to help reduce the spread by encouraging you to have children with longer hair to wear it up, reminding kids to keep their coats in their backpacks and another reminder that three feet social distancing is a great idea for many reasons! Thanks for your help with this!

Attendance Reminders

A reminder that daily attendance is being taken by classroom teachers. Our office team is reviewing absences each day and reaching out to families to ensure that every child has the tools needed to engage in online learning. Being marked “present” means that your child has participated in live learning, watched a video post on Seesaw or engaged in an activity on Seesaw.

We know that absences happen, just like they do when we are learning in our building. When your child is absent due to illness, appointment or a family event, please call the office at 360.676.6410 (press option 1 for attendance) so that we can excuse the absence. Thank you for your help with this – and please reach out if questions.
