SLC HS Back to School Update
September 2021
Welcome!
School will begin this Friday, September 3rd for all students. It is important that you attend on this first day as many key details for a successful school year will be covered on this day. Please review your schedule that was mailed home at the beginning of August and be ready to report to your first period class. Your schedules are also available for you to view on SchoolTool if you may have misplaced your copy. An additional copy of your schedule will be given to you on your first day in homeroom.
A reminder that you will need to wear a mask on the first day of school. Please check below for the link to Mr. Rose's return to school update for further information on all required health and safety protocols here. Also, though we will be going over this information on the first day of school, please feel free to check out our student handbook here.
Please review and acknowledge all required parent forms by Friday, September 17th for the 2021-2022 school year by accessing the link below. We thank you for your time and patience in completing these necessary forms for your student(s). If you have already completed these forms and sent confirmation to Mrs. McCarthy, there is no need to complete again.

Please note, driving to school is a privilege and it is required that students follow all of the necessary rules and regulations to continue to be allowed to do so.
What if my child is isolated/quarantined through the first days of school?
Please call or email Mrs. Hallahan, HS School Nurse, to connect about next steps for remote instruction at the start of school. Please note that before any child is transitioned to remote instruction the school will verify the necessity with Public Health. Remote instruction will only be available as verified by Public Health for medical necessity.
I would like to share some additional information that I hope you find helpful in preparing for our first day back, on Friday, September 3rd:
Home and School Communication
We recognize that communication between home and school is a key element in our partnership in your child's education. Our district has a brand new App, which can be installed on your phone. Search the App store for "Brasher Falls Central School District" to download our new app and stay informed.
Parent Drop Off
Students can be dropped off between 7:30 and 7:50 am, though we recommend dropping them off between 7:45 and 7:50 am. The drop off location is behind the high school near the cafeteria back exit. Signs denote the traffic flow. Please use caution and drive with care for our students! There will be a staff member waiting to greet your child.
Parent Pick Up
We will follow the same procedures as last year for parent pick up:
- If you will be picking your child up every day, your child will be released to the cafeteria and staff will assist with letting them know when you have arrived to pick them up. After school dismissal will continue to be located behind the back of the school. Students can exit through the back of the building at the end of the day.
- If your child needs to be picked up during the school day, please come to the main office. Please have your ID available as you may be required to show proof of identification for pickup. This is to ensure your child's safety so please be understanding of the need for this security measure.

Back to School Night and Orientation
We have traditionally held a "Freshman Orientation" for 9th grade students and families the week before school begins. It was our hope to be able to hold a modified event again this year, however, space is a limitation in being able to hold this large of a presentation. I will be sending out a link to all families on your school provided email at 5:00 pm at this night for you to watch as you are able. The link does not expire and I have shared information that is pertinent to all families in the SLC HS.
