St. Gabriel School ..................... September 25, 2016

Being Christ, Every Day, Everywhere ...

Through teaching, learning, leading, and serving ...

That's the St. Gabriel Advantage

Principal's Notes

Dear Parents and Families,

Moving into our fifth week of school, our Diocesan hot lunch program is back in business, and had a steady start last week. There are some glitches we are working on to smooth out in some of the lunch periods, such as wait times and lunch line procedures so all will have a good eating time and experience. Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Please continue having your children come in each morning knowing if and which lunch they would like to buy for the day so we get lunch count in right awayt. We are adjusting to upgrades in our digital system but it is up and running.

Our Alacarte will still be in scaled back mode right now as we work on other time challenges, but there will be cookies and ice cream cups available now in addition to milk, water, and bags of chips.

We are examining all aspects of the lunch program with our new Directors and Noon Watch team. Mrs. Sonja Chom-Cesen and Mrs. Maureen Mitch are our new Lunch Room Directors, and Mrs. Tina Cardilli is our new Noon Watch Coordinator. These wonderful ladies have worked and dedicated their time and skills in the kitchen and lunch room teams for several years, and have great experience and expertise to transition to leading our lunch program crews.

Blessings and peace,

Mrs. Saladino

Last Reminder: SCHOOL WEBSITE CALENDAR upgraded

  • Hopefully by now everyone has noticed that we have upgraded the school Calendar that is accessible on the home page of the School Website. It is now actually a Google calendar, so it will be more convenient for you to access on your smart phones and other devices.

  • Michelle and Maggie in the Office will be working to keep the Calendar current. Let them know if you need things posted, or if you see things needing to be modified.

  • Note that on that calendar for your information we have marked FUSION DAYS and NUMBERED DAYS so you know which day is which number. We continually rotate numbering our days 1-5, in that order.

  • We do not number Wednesdays, weekends and any other no school days off.

  • Note that when we resume school tomorrow, Monday, September 19 is Day 4.

  • SPECIAL NOTE: When there is an unexpected day off of school, such as a SNOW DAY, or a teacher in-service day, that day will NOT have a number. We will adjust as needed to keep 1-5 and not miss any days scheduled for related arts or other events or curriculum - a great efficiency of time benefit of this system.

BRIGHT SPOTS

Reading, Creativity, and Sunshine in the 5th Grade!

Mrs. Bruening's fifth grade ELA had all of this going on last Thursday while reading a good book on our beautiful St. Gabriel parish grounds, then creating the main character out of sidewalk chalk. SEE PHOTOS on St. Gabriel Facebook .

It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge. ~Albert Einstein

Creative art combines with geometry in School Unity Quilt

Under the guidance of Art Teacher Mrs. Chalhoub, every student in the school joined their art talents and creativity, with some side lessons about geometry, measurement and rainbows of color design, to create an amazing Unity Quilt. The "quilt" of coloring and paper presents an awesome display in the Grizzly Learning Den, now not quite one year old! Stop by to admire if you have a chance!

Grade 8 Begins comprehensive authentic project in Classroom Design

Combining core mathematical content, research, technology and art standards, Mrs. LaSpina will be guiding 8th grade students in researching and designing arrangements of furniture and resources for their classrooms. With the driving question of how to create the best classroom environment for learning, they will use authentic materials to create a final product proposal to present to the administration.

PINWHEELS FOR PEACE ... THIS IS THE WEEK!

In today’s world, peace needs to become more than just a word. We are so excited to announce that this Wednesday, September 21, we will present our first all school STREAM project, our international project, Pinwheels for Peace by “planting” pinwheels with messages of peace on our St. Gabriel campus.

Directed at St. Gabriel by our own amazing art teacher, Mrs. Erin Chalhoub, with supporting team of all faculty and staff, our students have created their own unique pinwheels. Religion, reading, English Language Arts, science, art, and music content standards, plus technology, speaking, listening, comprehension and collaboration skill readiness standards have been incorporated across all grade levels. All were driven by focusing on our essential, or driving question: What can St. Gabriel School do to join our world community Pinwheels for Peace movement in contributing to calling all citizens to a peaceful world?

This Wednesday on the culminating International Day of Peace, after a special all school celebration liturgy, the school will "plant" their pinwheels on the school campus as a public statement and art/media exhibit/installation for all those passing by and through our campus. We will further connect with external partners in the media to spread this call to peace.
