Our First TOGO Party is Friday!
Our first school-wide TOGO Party is Friday, November 8. We will run an alternate schedule, so lunch times will be altered!
Students who do not get their TOGO Card taken up between October 21- November 8, are eligible to attend the party. Students who get their TOGO card taken for any reason during this time frame CANNOT attend the party (even if the student earns it back and has his/her card on the day of the party)!
Again, if their card is taken anytime from this coming Monday, October 21 - Friday, November 8, they CANNOT go to the party!!!

Report Card Grades in Skyward
- The second Grading Period ended this past Friday, November 1.
- Report Card Grades for the 2nd grading period will be posted to Skyward on Thursday, November 7.
- Report Cards will NOT be printed. Grades are always current and live in Skyward, and we will send notifications of when the Report Card Grades are final each grading period.
- At any time, you can always contact your child's teacher(s) if you have questions or concerns about your child's grades.
AVID Strategy of the month
We continue our AVID Strategy of the Month. November's focus will be on INQUIRY: Costa’s Levels of Thinking/Questioning.
Our on-going WICOR activities include continuing written response to open-ended questions created by teacher AND students (WRITING), collaboration activities (COLLABORATION), and using planners and binder checks (ORGANIZATION).

6th Grade Field Trip to Casa Manana Theater
On Thursday, February 4, our 6th grade students will be going to see the science fiction drama, “Frank and Friends," at the Casa Manana Theater in Fort Worth. All 3 forms below and the $10.00 to cover your child’s admission into the venue and transportation must be submitted in order for your child to attend the field trip.
You have 2 payment options:
- You may pay online at https://tinyurl.com/y6ka6p9p no later than Friday, November 15th.
- You may pay by cash or check no later than Thursday, November 21st. Please make sure to make checks payable to “Della Icenhower Intermediate” or “DIIS”.
Students will be eating lunch at Trinity Park located near the theater after the play. They have the option to either bring their lunch or order a sack lunch from the cafeteria.

This week, Mrs. Douglas talked to the 6th graders about the importance of communication. She used the results to a survey she had the parents fill out when they attended the parent/teacher conferences to see how well the students knew their parents.
She played Family Feud with the students to get them to guess the results. Here are the results to the parent survey.

No matter what your child says or does they are craving more time with you. Quality, not just being in the same room together type time, but the put your phone down, turn the TV off and look at them kind of attention. In just 6 or 7 years they will be graduating high school. Make these years count.
If you would like to help improve your communication skills with your students please join the counselor on 12/17/2019 for Taco Bout it Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 pm in the Icenhower Library. The Counselors will be talking about ways to improve your communication with your child.

Attention Parents - Lunch Deliveries!
Parents are more than welcome to drop off their child’s lunch for them to come and get in the office, however, we WILL NOT be interrupting any CORE class for him/her to come get the lunch.
From this point forward, students will be called down during their WIN Time to come get their lunch that has been dropped off in the front office (this is 3rd period for 6th grade; 4rd period for 5th grade).
Important Reminders about Attendance!
Excused absences notices must be in the following format to be accepted:
- Must be a Parent Note, Dr. Note, Email, etc.
- Must have FULL LEGAL Student Name & Grade Level
- Must be Excused within the current 6 week grading period
We WILL NOT go back and Excuse them after that grading period has ended!

It is only $8 to join, and you can pay in person or go online at www.joinpta.org to pay. Students will be coming home with forms to join this week.
The money that PTA raises in dues and fundraisers goes to fund our socials, Dog Dollar Store, Science Night and Teacher Appreciation Treats. Money coming back to the school will be used to purchase new PE weight room equipment, bookshelves for our classroom libraries, and more!
Friendly reminder about students arriving before 8:00 AM
Icenhower staff begins their duty day at 8:00 AM. Students who are dropped off before 8:00 AM will not be supervised.
The school day ends at 4:00 PM. Please make sure your student is picked up in a timely manner.
School-Wide Reading Initiative Continues!
This will be Icenhower's 2nd year implementing our School-Wide Reading Initiative where all student will be required to read a certain amount of books from several genres for the school year (more information to come from your child's Language Arts teachers)! All staff members also join in on this challenge (including our administrative team)!
Our teachers will continue to build their classroom libraries to give students and staff a wide variety of books to choose from, and any books you no longer use would be greatly appreciated!
You can drop off your donated books in either the front office or give them to your child's Language Arts teacher!
No Messages will be delivered after 3:00 PM
We understand that emergency situations can come up, and those will be handled accordingly.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Please follow the arrival and dismissal procedures as explained below. Parent drop off and pick WILL BE in the front, and these procedures MUST be followed to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Everything will go much smoother if everyone follows the correct procedures!

Students arriving prior to 8:00am are outside and unsupervised until 8:00am. At 8:00am, students enter the building and report to the gym or to the cafeteria for breakfast. The tardy bell rings at 8:30. Students not in class at this time will report to the office and sign-in as “tardy to school.”
MISD Volunteer Application for the 19-20 School Year!!
Anyone wishing to volunteer and/or attend events at Icenhower must complete the Volunteer Application for the 2019-2020 school year. This includes field trips, class parties, PTA Socials and Field Day.
Parents that have more than one student at multiple campuses, only need to complete one application.
