Early life
Nicolae Ceaușescu was born in the village of Scornicești, Olt County, on 26 January 1918 being one of the ten children of a poor peasant family.
He ran away from his abusive, alcoholic father to Bucharest. He initially lived with his sister, Niculina Rusescu, and then became an apprentice shoemaker.
He worked in the workshop of Alexandru Săndulescu, a shoemaker who was an active member in the then illegal Communist Party. Ceaușescu was soon involved in the Communist Party activities.
Romanian Ruler
Nicolae Ceaușescu was a Romanian Communist politician. He was General Secretary of the Romanian Communist Party from 1965 to 1989, and as such was the country's second and last Communist leader.
Communist official who was leader of Romania from 1965 until he was overthrown and killed in a revolution in 1989.
