Boris Onishchenko

Olympic Pentathlete

Fencing event

  • After the first event in the Pentathlon, the Soviet Union found themselves in 4th place.
  • When they went to the fencing event, the british fencer said that Boris's weapon had gone off before he had actually hit the other athlete.
  • The olympic comittee confiscated his weapon, but he was allowed to continue the match and he won.
  • It was later found that he had illegally made a button in his weapon that allowed him to extend his weapon without actually hitting the other person.
